"Thank you, so much, Professor L/Y/N!" Luella, my student in my Mathematics for Finance class, tells me with enthusiasm in her voice.
"You're welcome, Miss Sanders! I'm glad I was able to clarify the assignment for you," I nod at her as I speak.
"Oh, I'm really glad I was able to do this meeting with you," she smiles gratefully over to me.
"Well, you know my office hours and you can always email me to schedule another appointment if you need to discuss anything else," I remind her of what our university can offer our students.
"Thank you, again, Professor L/Y/N!" She says to me as she gathers her belongings and she eventually exits my office.
It's Friday, and currently 8:45am. I have another student, this time from my Linear Algebra class, who is dropping by, to briefly discuss a recent test, around 9am.
I decide to momentarily duck out of my office to quickly use the restroom.
As I step out of my office, I start to walk down the hallway, towards the restrooms. As I get close, someone emerges unexpectedly, and it's Jin, who's stepping out of his office.
He happens to stop to stand right in front of me, not noticing me immediately when he stepped out. We almost collided, but I was observant for the both of us and kept us from physically bumping into each other.
As soon as he realizes we almost collided, he addresses me.
"Oh, Y/N! I'm so sorry I got in your way! I should pay attention to my surroundings more!" He tries to sound pleasant.
"No worries, Mr. Kim," I say and I try to walk around him. As I continue to walk, I hear him call after me from behind.
"Y/N," Jin says in a normal volume.
I turn around, "Yes, is there anything you need, Mr. Kim?"
"I know this might be a lot to ask, but if you have time during a break of yours, could you meet me in my office?" He looks at me, and I notice hope on his face.
"Did you need help with something?" I ask, trying to figure out why he'd need me to meet him in his office. He walks towards me and stops to stand directly in front of me.
"Yes. I mean...Y/N, this week, you've been trying to avoid me. We work in the same department. I don't want anything to be awkward between us. Can we please just talk?"
I shake my head. "Seokjin, if we are discussing something that has nothing to do with work or academics, then I don't think meeting in your office is necessary."
"Y/N, please? I know the last time we saw each other before I started here isn't a great memory for you. It wasn't for me either. But, please talk to me! Please hear me out," he pleads in a low volume.
"I don't know," I simply say out loud. I can't even make eye contact with him. I just look to the side of him.
"Just, please think about it. I have a class that ends at 12pm and I'll be in my office for most of the day after that," he informs me.
