* 3 YEARS LATER*
"I can't believe my baby girl is going off to kindergarten," I sighed, "And my baby boys are going to be in 4K!"
"Mommy! Daddy, I'm ready!" Ember called.
She came bounding down the stairs, long brown hair all brushed in the cutest outfit and her backpack in her hands. Then came my little trouble makers, Eli and Asher in their matching outfits and toy story backpacks. Good thing they're fraternal!
"But I'm not," I murmured, leaning in to Kelly.
"Me neither. When did our baby girl get old enough for all day school," Kelly sighed, wrapping his arm around my waist.
"Seems like just yesterday I was finding out we were having a little girl."
"You guys ready?" Eli asked, pulling in his backpack.
"Yep! Let's take pictures and then we'll drop Ember off at school and the boys at preschool."
After taking pictures and shedding some tears, it was time to leave. Kelly pulled into the drop off lane and I got out to hug her goodbye. She gave Kelly a peck on the cheek before giving me the same.
"Bye Mama!" she waved,
"Bye princess!"
Then it was time to drop off the boys. We walked them into their usual day, the difference being they were on the preschool side of the building now.
"Bye Mommy!" both boys cheered, smothering me in hugs and a kiss.
"Bye boys. Be good."
Then they hugged Kelly goodbye before we headed to the station. I wasn't a hot mess, but I was kinda emotional. My babies were growing up. When we got to work, I headed straight for the coffee.
"So, how'd it go?" asked Sylvie, easily finding me.
"I was a wreck," I chuckled, pouring myself a cup, "I cried dripping off both sets of kids."
"How'd Kelly do?" Stella questioned.
"He teared up when we dropped off Ember saying how his baby girl is getting too big."
"Awe. Sounds like it's time for baby number four."
"Honestly maybe it is. I miss having a baby around!"
"Oh boy," Stella chuckled.
"What? You don't think we should have another one."
"No no, have as been as you want! You guys trying for a fourth is just going to mean a higher risk of catching you to having sex somewhere you shouldn't be."
"Fair enough. I'd try to promise you that we won't do that, but we all know it'd be a lie."
***
That night after shift, we picked up the kiddos and they were all excited to tell us about their days. They all had pictures to hang up on the fridge and Em had even brought home her first beginner book to try reading before bed. I made dinner and we all watched Toy Story 4 before it was time for bed.
Tonight I had the boys and Kelly had Ember, so he got to listen to her read. I set the boys up in their beds before setting my chair in between them to read them two books, one each of them picked. Once their books were read, I double checked that they were tucked in before pressing a kiss to each other their foreheads.
"Night Mommy," the both stated as I blew them a kiss from the doorway.
"Night boys. I'll see you in the morning."
