Kelly had decided he wanted to spend his Father's Day out on the lake. Ember was super excited to go out on the boat and for Kelly to teach her how to fish.
I was rushing around the house, trying to make sure everything was packed. Kelly was packing the cooler and the lunches I had pre-made last night. I was making sure the diaper bag was packed along with the boat bag. I also had to get Ember changed into her bathing suit and sunscreen her up. While Kelly still had his old boat, I had convinced him to get a bigger more family friendly one. We definitely needed the space with our little group plus it was better if we wanted to have some friends out.
"Ready babe?" questioned Kelly as he came back in from loading up the Tahoe.
"Almost!" I cried back before releasing an adorable sun screened Ember.
She ran and jumped into Kelly's arm, making him chuckle, "Well somebody is ready!"
"Yeah!" agreed Ember.
"Alright the boys are ready to be buckled up, but you're going to want to get her in first."
"Alright. Come on munchkin. Momma will be out in a minute."
Kelly walked out and I followed with the twins in their carriers. Once everyone was buckled in we headed off. I could tell he was excited before he couldn't wipe the grin off his face. He'd never admit it, but he loved our little family fun days.
When we got to the pier, I buckled Ember's life jacket around her. She walked right in front of me and behind Kelly so we could still carry stuff. After getting the cooler and the bags in, Kelly took the carriers one by one. Finally Ember and I were able to hop it. Once we were in, Ember shed her jacket and climbed up in Kelly's lap. He let her "drive" and she felt like such a big kid. It was adorable.
I held the twins for a while letting the sun get on them a bit before laying them back down. They were to little to be out in the sun too long. Eventually Kelly found a calm spot and took Ember to the front of the boat to fish. She had a little blue fishing pole with characters from the movie cars and a matching tackle box.
"Okay, so you're going to take it sideways," Kelly instructed, guiding her hand as he spoke, "then you're gonna let go of the button and whip it!"
"Woah!"
"That's called casting. Then we wait to see if any fishies bite in the worms."
"It takes a long time?"
"Sometimes it does. That's why daddy has pole holders, so he can do something else if he needs too."
"Oh okay!"
They tried at it for a little while before they decided to take a break for lunch. I set Ember up with a little lap try before sunscreening Kelly. He wouldn't let me earlier, but I got him to finally cave. As I rubbed the lotion into his back he let out a hum.
"Enjoying this?" I questioned with a chuckle.
"'Mmm a little," he turned his head back at me with a smirk before leaning forward to give me a kiss.
"Eww," interrupted Ember, sticking her tongue out at us.
I just rolled my eyes and finished his back before pulling out our food. The twins were whining because they were hungry so I decided to tandem feed them while I ate my own lunch. We were tucked into a bay with no one else around so I didn't mind.
"So, is this a good Father's Day?" I asked Kelly between bites of my sandwich.
"Perfect. I couldn't ask for anything better. I've got my beautiful wife, my amazing kiddos, good food, and a cold beer. What else could I guy want."
"Well we're very grateful to have you in our lives."
"We love you daddy!" cheered Ember as she ate her cheese-its.
"I love you too baby girl. Are you having fun?"
"Oh yeah! I like fishing with you daddy."
"Maybe it's something we can do more often."
"Yes please!"
We both chuckled at her excitement before finishing up lunch. I was laying on the back cushion, soaking up the sun. Then Ember came running, tapping me on the arm.
"Mommy! Daddy said we got swimming!" she cried eagerly.
"Oh really? Well we better get your vest on!"
I got her all buckled up with Kelly tossed the anchor so we weren't just floating. I stood on the swim deck with Ember, explaining to her the rules.
"You can jump off if you want to but remember when you're in the water you have to stay close to the boat or mommy or daddy. Okay?"
"Okay momma," she said with a grin, clearly looking past me.
As I turned around to see what was happening, Kelly pushed me in. When I came back up, the two of them were laughing.
"Kelly Severide!"
"Yes Corinthia Severide?" he responded innocently.
"You're going to pay for that later."
"Oh am I?"
He jumped in, making a big splash. Then Ember jumped into his arms as we clapped for her. She was a decent swimmer for her age, so I wasn't really worried. We splashed around for a little bit before deciding it was time to dry off and head home. Ember curled up in my lap with her towel as Kelly drove us back to the boat slip. She was definitely worn out. Lucky for me, the twins were tired too. By the time we got home, everyone was out.
I changed Ember out of her swimsuit while Kelly changed the boys and put them down. Once they were all down, I hopped in the shower and Kelly decided to join me ;)

Later that night Kelly and I were laying in bed, cuddled up to each other. Ember had given him the card she made and a framed picture of the two of them. I got Kelly a new grill which he was ridiculously excited about. He was already planning to host the grill out for 4th of July weekend.
"So all and all, was it a good Father's Day?" I asked with a smile.
"The best. I couldn't have asked for a better day. Thanks babe."
"You deserve it. I love you."
"I love you too."
