Today was the day I got to take my baby girl home. I was signing the discharge papers with Maggie at the front desk while Kelly got Ember ready to go.

"And you have all the future car sheets?" asked Natalie as I filled out the paperwork.

"Yes Nat. Rhodes gave me her medication plan, proper cleaning of her surgery scar, and we already made her surgical follow up appointment" I stated without looking up, "I got this".

"I know you do. I just want to be sure".

"Thank you" I smiled over at her.

I handed the papers to Maggie and she gave me the official all clear to leave. I went back to the room where Kelly was and grabbed our bags.

"You got the baby?" I asked him as I shoved the diaper bag over my shoulder.

"Absolutely" he smiled, giving me a peck on the lips, "Now let's get the hell out of this damn hospital".

I chuckled as we walked out together. We were ecstatic to finally get to bring Ember home. I rolled my eyes when I saw the car Kelly had brought to the hospital.

"Kelly Severide. We own four cars. Your 2015 Mustang Fastback, my 2014 Chevy Impala, my 69' Camaro, and your 68' Mustang Fastback. We have two reasonable family cars and which car do you pick... your Mustang" I stayed with a raised eyebrow.

"Come on. It'll be one hell of a first car ride" he smirked, "Besides, when have we ever been reasonable?"

"Touché" I grinned, "But you have to abide my driving laws as long as our baby girl is in the car".

"Fine. Now let's go!"

I rolled my eyes as we got Ember buckled in and put the bags in the back. Once we had everything in the car, we took off.

"So, are we making that pit-stop on the way?" I asked Kelly, our fingers intertwined on the middle counsel.

"If you want to babe" he stated, looking over at me momentarily.

"I think it'd be fun!"

Ten minutes later we were pulling up in front of the firehouse. I made sure Ember was bundled up before grabbing her carrier. Once Kelly grabbed the diaper bag, we head inside through the door.

I sighed at the warmth and walked down the hall into the kitchen area where I found everyone sitting. Of course, Gabby spotted us first.

"Oh my goodness!" she cheered, getting everyone else's attention.

I smiled at everyone as I crouched down to pull the layers off of Ember and take her out of her carrier. I carefully pulled her out and held her in my arms. I still couldn't get over how small she was.

"Everyone, meet Emberly Shay Severide" I announced with a grin.

An awe fell over the room as everyone studied Emberly. Kelly set the diaper bag on the ground next to the carrier before moving back to my side.

"She's so cute" cooed Sylvie.

"How's she doing?" asked Cruz while Sylvie and Gabby came over to talk to Ember.

"Great. Rhodes said she's doing better than expected. Now we just gotta work on getting her into the new every day schedule at home" explained Kelly, glancing over at his little girl.

"She's precious" complimented Boden, "Congrats Kelly".

The two men bro hugged while I passed Ember off to Gabby. I sighed and leaned into Kelly, feeling a tad bit tired.

"And how's Mom doing?" asked Hermann sweetly.

"Tired" I chuckled, "But it'll be better now that I have her home with me. I don't have to worry about something going wrong at Med and whatnot. Things can sorta be normal".

"Sweetheart, you have a baby. Nothing will ever be normal again" quipped Gabby and I rolled my eyes.

"She's a Severide, she'll never be normal" joked Kelly and we all laughed.

Kelly moved to go sit with his squad guys as I headed towards my truck buddies. When I approached, Hermann gave me a hug.

"You're a great mom" he complimented, causing a smile to form on my lips, "I don't know how you do what you do".

"Thanks Hermann. That means a lot" I replied before we both sat down at the table.

We chatted with our friends for a little while, catching up. Gabby had handed Ember off to Kelly, who was now lounging casually on the couch while our baby girl slept in the crook of his arm.

"Alright, we better get out of here" I sighed, "We gotta get this one home".

"Kelly or the baby?" asked Otis, causing a few of us to chuckle and for Kelly to glare at him.

"The baby" I replied, "We haven't gone home yet and she'll need some time to adjust before we put her down".

We said our goodbyes to everyone, bundled up Ember, and then headed into the car. We were finally headed home.

A few hours later, everything was perfect. I had Ember's heart care stuff set up on a shelf near the diaper changing station, the baby had been fed and recently changed, and Kelly and I had eaten dinner. I walked into our living room to see Kelly sleeping on the recliner with Ember on his chest. I smiled and snapped a photo of the two of them before uploading it to Instagram.
