"We've got a patrol cop outside your other home for protection while we look for this guy," Boden explained to us.
"Thank you," I replied as little Kinsley was passed around to everybody.
"Were these homemade bombs?" Kelly questioned, slipping between the rolls of protective family man and fire cop.
"Looks like it. Whoever they were knew you well enough to know where you lived and your schedule. I mean striking the one day Corin's off and all the kids are home? That can't be a coincidence."
"So how do we hunt down this punk?"
"We're going through the files now of any case you ever touched for OFI that has some sort of similar MO," she explained, "We'll probably need your help though."
"Look, I have to stay overnight anyway and they want to keep the kids here for observation to make sure there lungs are still strong. Why don't you go, look over files, and find this guy who tried to hurt our family? I know you want to."
"You just had a baby, I'm not leaving you and three kids here."
"I'll stay," Sylvie offered with a smile, "Boden's had a floater on standby for me anyway, they can step in and I'll stay here."
"Thanks Brett," Kelly smiled gratefully.
"Of course."
Kelly kissed our baby girl who laid in my arms before pressing a kiss to my lips. Just then Gallo and Violet came back with the kiddos and a ton of snacks.
"Alright guys, daddy's gotta go find out why our house started on fire. I need you to stay here and be good for mommy and Aunty Sylvie, okay?"
"Okay daddy!" The three of them agreed before he hugged and kissed each of them.
"Ember, you look over Kinsley alright? I'm putting you in charge."
"Got it daddy!"
With that Kelly left with the rest of the house. Sylvie sat in the cozy chair at my bed side while the kids sat on the couch watching whatever movie the nurse had thrown on the tv for them.
"Alright, I gotta let you in on something," Sylvie began, "Part of the reason I'm staying is because I've been laboring."
"Oh my god! What?"
"Don't freak out! It's not that intense or urgent. They wouldn't even admit me yet. Besides I'm in a hospital, I'm all good. Matt knows and he's on call. We're good."
"Okay. You need anything, let me know and I'll call."
"Okay. How are you feeling mama?"
"Tired and stressed, but just so damn grateful that my baby girl is here and that my family is safe," I sighed, glancing over at my adorable, preoccupied kiddos, "I just hope they catch this guy."
"Have you met your husband? He'll definitely be catching that guy."
"I know he will. Especially with Matt by his side, I just can't believe my baby girl came that quick amidst the chaos."
"She knew it was her time to shine!" Sylvie chuckled, "And being your 4th birth, she thought it was like a water slide."
"Apparently! I'm just glad we made it to the ambulance."
"Oh yeah me too. That would have been a whole other story if you hadn't."
******
Later Sylvie was officially admitted for being in labor and the hospital just moved us into a split room, so we were still together. Ember was out cold on the cot beside me while Cindy had came and took the boys for me. She tried taking Ember but my feisty girl told Kelly she wasn't leaving me and she meant it. She was always well behaved, so I let her stay.
