Since I was so pregnant, I had been moved to desk duty which meant anything from paperwork to helping OFI. That meant though that Kelly wasn't currently allowed to assist OFI since Squad was already short handed. I had been off the last couple days though since we were moving.
Originally we hadn't planned on it, but when we found out I was actually pregnant and I started house planning I realized we really just needed more space. So eventually we found one and had began moving stuff into it. Most of the boxes were over in the new place. What was left at the old was things to get us through our last day here, so a small amount of clothes, toys, and food. The reason we were so split was because we needed things to be set up in the home before we actually stayed there since I was so close to my due date. This last weekend though we got the bedroom set up, so the rest of the place it's what's left. But we can officially stay there in case I go into labor.
Kelly was on shift, but the kids had a teacher in service day which meant no school. Since they're room were basically cleaned out, I had them all hanging out in my bedroom upstairs where there was still a bed and a tv, which came with the house. They had toys and tablets and snacks, so they were set. I however was sweaty from packing up our food, so I needed to be clean.
"Alright, mama's gonna get in the shower. I'm gonna shut the bedroom door, and nobody opens it, okay?" I explained, "I don't need anyone to fall down the stairs and crack your head open."
"Yes mama!" Ember smiled.
"Alright. You need anything, just yell okay?"
"Yep!"
With that I hoped in the shower. They took longer nowadays being 9 months pregnant and all. I was just finishing up when I heard three crashing sounds. It wasn't loud enough to be a full concern, but I was curious.
"Hey, what was that? Ember?!" I yelled out as I stepped out of the shower.
"It was downstairs! Probably another bird hit the window."
I shrugged it off, wringing out my hair. I pulled on my underwear and maternity bra followed by my leggings and a tank top. I was suddenly very warm. And there was a weird smell in the air.
"Mama! Somethings wrong! There's smoke!" Ember came in running.
My eyes went wide as I ran out with the towel. I through open the bedroom door to see fire dancing around the house. I knew I had to get out, but it was already licking up the steps. We were trapped.
I called 911 as I shut the door, trying to conceal my panic from the kids. Opening the bedroom window, I had them stay under it.

Meanwhile at the station, they were hanging around waiting.
"Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, Engine 51- House fire, 98th North Street"
Kelly's face plummeted as they took off to the trucks, but he was sprinting.
"What's the panic?!" Gallo asked, confused.
"That's Corin and Kelly's house," Stella shouted before adding, "And she's home with them now."

"I'm scared!" Eli cried as I tried to keep them calm.
"It's okay Eli. Mama's a firefighter, we're going to be fine!" Ember assured sweetly, letting her little brother climb up in her lap.
Then she looked over at me and nodded. I knew she was just as scared as them but was being brave for them. That's when I a sharp pain in my abdomen. In the chaos I had forgotten that my water had broken in the shower.
