It was finally the weekend and Kelly and I were both off. With a snowstorm rolling through Chicago, we got groceries and other necessities on the way home from shift and we were planning on staying in all weekend, just an all-around lazy weekend so we could recharge your batteries for the week ahead.
I peeked at the clock on the bedside table – 7.38am. Surprisely there was no crying baby yet that woke me...or any of our 3 crazy, lovable children wanting something. I rolled over to snuggle into Kelly when I noticed he was gone.
"That may explain the silence..." I murmured to myself.
I assumed he had woken up early, unable to fall back asleep and got up to let me sleep in. Love that man. I got up, changing into comfy clothes and washing my face when I heard little giggles coming from the living room slowly getting louder.
"No Daddy, you're too big!" Eli's voice rung out in laughter.
"You wanna bet, El?" Kelly's voice came from behind the couch.
As I walked down the stairs I saw the living room in disarray, catching me off card. How in the hell did they manage this without waking me up? The dining room table was pulled next to the couch and an insane number of pillows and blankets were thrown upon and around the two pieces of furniture. A blanket fort had been made.
"Morning!" I smiled, catching their attention.
"Mommy! Daddy built us a blanket fort!" exclaimed Ember excitedly as she gave me a quick hug.
"I see that. Where's Kinsley?"
"In the vibrating swing next to the other couch." Kelly's voice came from under the table, his head peeking out from behind two blankets "Morning baby."
"Morning babe," I smiled back, leaning down to kiss him, "I take it you've fit two twin munchkins in there with you?"
"Hi mommy," the boy yelled as the popped their heads out the enterance.
"Hey boys," I chuckled, "You guys keep playing, I'm going to make some pancakes for breakfast."
"Yay!"

"Hey so I've got an idea I want to talk to you about?" Kelly asked as we walked into the firehouse.
"Okay..." I paused, waiting for him to elaborate as we dropped our stuff side by side in the locker room.
"I was thinking since it's been such a long year with the my injury and surgery, house fire, new baby, and all that, I figured it might be nice to get out of the city for the holidays this year."
"Okay, what were you thinking?"
"When Benny died he left me his cabin just outside the city. I figured we could go there, have a fire, Christmas tree, the kids can really play in the snow..." he spoke almost excitedly, "and there's three bedrooms, so we can put the kids in one, we have another, and I was thinking maybe we see if Matt and Sylvie wanna come with London. I mean last I heard they don't have plans so."
"I think that sounds like a great idea. Think we can get the time off though?"
"Yeah we should be fine. I can go talk to Boden about it to confirm. You wanna ask Matt or Sylvie?"
"Sure! I think the kids are gonna love having a little Christmas cabin experience. Plus we can have a little romantic date night in front of the fireplace," I smirked, pressing a kiss to Kelly's lips.
"Well then it sounds like plan then."
We split up and I spotted Sylvie getting coffee. She headed for the table, so I got myself a cup and joined her.
"Hey, so I've got an offer for you," I smiled at Sylvie.
"Yeah what's up?" She asked all chipper.
"Kelly and I are doing a little Christmas vacation at his dad's cabin. We were wondering if you, Matt, and Londyn wanted to join us."
"I'd love too! My parents are traveling, so we were going to be alone. Let me just make sure it's fine with Matt!"
"Awesome! I'll get you the details!"

When break came around, we packed the kids into the suburban along with the luggage. Matt and Kelly took the suburban with the kids and some of the groceries and such while Sylvie and I took my truck with most of the luggage and Londyn and Kinsley.
"Good call sticking my crazy three with the boys while we've got the sleeping babies," I chuckled to Sylvie, cheering our travel mugs together.
"I figured you could use a break. Besides now we get some girl time before the family affair begins."
"Exactly, and I could use it."

When we got to the cabin, I couldn't help but smile. Kelly had drove up a few days earlier to decorate it for Christmas, complete with a tree and all. I placed the baby carriers on the dining room table as the guys brought in luggage. I should the kids to their room before dropping my suitcase and Kinsleys bag in our room which was the only downstairs bedroom. Sylvie and Matt's room was upstairs down from the kids.
"Alright! Ember go ahead and shower upstairs. Boys, you're gonna have you're bath in mine and dad's room. Then get pajamas on and you can play or unpack until dinner is ready. Deal?" I explained to the kids and they all nodded.
The kids took off as I started the bath. When I came back out, Kelly had the fire going and Sylvie was working on dinner. I scooped up an alert Kinsley and headed into our bedroom to change her.
A few hours later the kids were clean, fed, and all tucked into bed. The pack and play was set up in our room for Kinsley and she was now out like I light. We had all changed into comfy clothes and gathered on the living room. Matt and Sylvie were curled up in one of the big chairs while Kelly and I snuggled on the couch. The boys had beers, Sylvie had a glass of red wine, and I had settled for some spiked eggnog. With laughed, and chatted, enjoying ourselves. With a slight buzz rolling through my body, we headed to bed for the night.
Kelly lit the fireplace in our room which was in the opposite side from the crib. Before my eyes Kelly created a little comforter bed in from of the fireplace.
"Kelly Severide, are you suggesting holiday fireplace sex?" I asked with a smirk as I snaked my arms around his neck.
"With my hot wife...how could I not?"

After opening gifts Christmas morning, Kelly and the kids bundled up and played outside in the snow while Sylvie and I made breakfast. We paid pancakes, eggs, bacon, and toast while Matt watched over the babies.
"Breakfast is ready!" I called outside.
The kids all came running, stripping off all their winter gear. I made sure to hang it up so it's dry as they all sat at the table. Kelly gave a kiss on the lips before diving into breakfast with the kids.
After breakfast we all had some hot cocoa and cuddled up on the couch go watch a Christmas movie. The kids looked adorable all rosy cheeked from the cold as we settled in. By the time the movie was ending, all the kiddos were napping.
I couldn't have asked for a better Christmas.
