"Run" commented Gabby as she passed me, walking the opposite way.

"What? Why?" I asked, stopping next to her.

"Look at my son! All grown up and a lieutenant of his own squad!" cooed a woman's voice from the apparatus floor.

"Kelly's Mom" warned Gabby.

My eyes went wide as Gabby rushed away. I heard them getting closer and didn't know where to go. I started walking back towards the kitchen area when I heard my name.

"Corinthia?" called the old woman's voice, causing me to turn around with a fake smile.

"Hi!" I replied as Kelly mouthed sorry to me.

"Mom meet Corinthia. Corin, this is my mom" introduced Kelly.

Don't get me wrong, Kelly loves his mom. I mean she raised him single handedly once Benny left, but there was so much drama surrounded her during her party years and the divorce. He wasn't always given the attention he needed and once he grew up, she stopped talking to him. It didn't help that he had the love-hate relationship with Benny either.

"So uh, what are you doing here Mom?" awkwardly asked Kelly, sticking his hands in his pockets.

"I heard a little rumor that my son had a baby and was engaged, so I figured I'd visit" she chirped.

"You haven't visited me since I was 18 Mom. Now is when you decide to visit?"

"Oh Kelly, I'm better now. I'm part of a great church and I've put the whole mess with your father behind me".

"We can talk about that later Ma".

"So uh where are you staying?" I asked, praying she wasn't staying with us.

"At a nearby hotel".

Just then my phone started ringing. I looked at it to see who it was before excusing myself.

"Hey!" chirped a female voice.

"Hey Katie! What's up?" I asked.

I had met Katie's sister a while back when Kelly and I were friends. She decided to come back for a visit and we hit it off. We'd text occasionally, more often once I started dating Kelly. She really was amazing.

"Just wanted to call and tell you I officially booked my hotel room".

"You're able to come? That's great! That honestly makes me so happy. Kelly's going to be excited too".

"I wouldn't miss my big brother's wedding. I mean even after what happened, we stayed in contact and got to know each other better. And when I came up and visited last, we had a ton of fun".

"Well that's true. I can't wait for Ember to meet her Aunty Katie. She's going to love you".

"I still can't believe Kelly is has a daughter and is getting married. So much has changed".

"Hey if someone told me four years ago when I walked into this firehouse that I'd have a daughter with and being marry Kelly Severide, I would have laughed my ass off".

I could here Katie chuckling over the phone, "You totally need to work that into your wedding vows".

"You know, I just might need too".

"So you guys just doing a lot of wedding planning this week?"

"That's my plan, but uh Kelly's Mom, Jennifer, has popped in for a visit".

"Oh lord. I've heard stories about her. Good luck".

"Thanks" I chuckled.
