The next month was long to say the least. The first week he really couldn't do much, he was in pain and had low mobility. Then it got better and he had a few PT sessions. Before I knew it though, he was back with us at 51.

I turned a corner and walked right into Sylvie, bumps knocking into each other. The two of us just started laughing. While I had been big for a while, Sylvie was finally just popping.

"God we're so pregnant," I chuckled.

"I know I'm surprised they're letting us run ambo together still."

"Honestly. I've been meaning to ask you, what do you think about a joint baby shower? I figured we'd invite the same people anyway and it'd be fun."

"I'm in! That would be so fun! Do you mind if I plan it?"

"That would be my blessing. I'm so busy with the kids, it would save me the time. I'm so excited for this!"

"It's going to be so much fun!"

"Mama!" Ember called as she fast walked down the hall.

"What's up baby girl?"

"Nothing. Daddy's doing paperwork, so he sent me with you," she shrugged, "Hi Auntie Sylvie!"

"Hey Em! What are you doing here and not at school?"

"It's bring your daughter to work day I guess and she wanted to come to the firehouse. Boden approved it because Kylie said if we get a entire house call she'll watch her."

"Well that's exciting. Why don't I take you to show you the ambulance?"

"That'd be so fun!"

With that the two were off, making me smile. Ember was my mini me, but a daddy's girl. I headed into the kitchen, getting myself a cup of coffee and chatting with Stella when Sylvie came back with Ember.

"Auntie Sylvie showed the ambo! It was so cool!" Ember cheered, making me chuckle before I picked her up to hold her in a hug.

"I'm so glad you're having fun so far. You wanna say hi to everyone?"

"Hi!" she waved excitedly, bringing smiles to everyone's faces.

"Ember is here for being your daughter to work day! So she gets to hang out and learn about truck, squad, engine, the firehouse," I explained.

"Sounds fun!"

"Grandpa Hermann, can you show me engine 51?"

"I can sweetheart. Ritter and I will show you!" Hermann smiled, taking her hand as the headed back to the apparatus floor.

"She's super interested in all of this," Mouch observed.

"She tells us she wants to work at a firehouse when she's older. She's just a kid though that could change," I sighed, "And I kind of hope it does. With her heart condition if they decide she needs the defibrillator forever, firefighting isn't an option. She could still be a paramedic but, I don't know."

"Yeah that's a rough one. Mine as well just let her dream big while she can," Stella spoke.

"Exactly. She's been all excited for this visit, especially for Kelly to show her the squad. I told her I couldn't really show her the truck because I'm too pregnant to get in it, so she told me she's gonna have Uncle Matt and Aunt Stella show her."

"She's a girl with a plan on a mission," Matt chuckled, sipping his coffee.

"That she is."

Later I wandered down the hallway, looking for Ember when I spotted Kelly's office. He sat sideways at his desk doing papers with Ember was sitting on his lap. The door was open, so I snuck to my bunk to overhear the two.
