My name is Rantaro Amami, and I was born over two hundred years ago.

Yeah, I know. I probably look nothing like two hundred years old. I resemble more of a person in the early twenties. My skin in perfect condition, my eyes bright, and yet the parts of me that are unseen are nothing human-like. My organs are grey and dead, my heart doesn't beat and is black and crumbled. My blood doesn't run and at night I grow fangs and claws like a monster.

But I wasn't always like this. At one point, I was a normal young man with a beating heart, pumping blood, and I could go outside. I even had a family at one point...

Wow.. isn't it almost unbelievable? Sometimes I even forget I did.

"Rantaro! Rantarooo!"

"Rantaro pick me up!"

"Hey, hey! I'm hungry..."

Surrounding the green-headed male was a swarm of little girls, all with the same ivy-green hair and eye color.

"Hey now, one at a time. Come here Rana..." Rantaro picked up one of the smallest, the third youngest, a girl of two and a half. "And no eating yet, Rata, Rato.. You know dinner will be soon and if you eat early, mother will be upset.."

The fourth youngest, Rata, by the age of four and a half, awed with disappointment, along with her twin, Rato. But their green eyes lit up when Rantaro crouched down and held up half a sweet potato for each of them to take.

"But as long as she doesn't know.. It'll be our little secret, okay?" Rantaro whispered with a smile and wink before handing one half of the potato to Rata and her twin sister Rato.

"Thank you big brother!" They both thanked simultaneously before munching away, and Rantaro only smiled. It made him so happy taking care of his sisters. Being their big brother, it was a blessing he took pride in. Even if there was twelve little girls he was always helping take care of daily, Rantaro always did whatever he could for them.

"Hey, Rantaro! Hold me next!"

"Can you help me fix my kendama?"

Rantaro shifted Rana on his hip, mommy hip style, and picked up Rai's — who was seven— toy and looked it over with one hand.

"Huh. Seems the string needs to be replaced. I think I have some in the house—"

But Rantaro cut himself off because from the corner of his eye, he was sure, just for a second..

"Rantaro..?"

He snapped out of it and handed Rai's toy back to her. "Sorry. I thought I saw something. Here. I'll fix it after dinner. I promise," He told her, ruffling her short, curly green locks before his gaze went back to the outstretched of woods that ran along the east side of their house.

"I could've sworn.. I saw someone watching us..."
