A kingdom can have its many secrets. Some may be scandalous and others dark. Not all things in life would be clear but it may to some people.
In town, there are stories about the castle. Some people say they see countless of carriages coming in and out. The visitors always have a short stay. No one has ever stayed long.
Others say that when the carriages leave the royal grounds, they hear cries of women. Questions about why they're crying are whispered throughout the village.
Well the kingdom of Endhart is the kingdom of unknown. No one knows what happens with the visitors and the royals but it is not good.

"Ezra! Come help me start the fire!" Nolan, my eleven year old brother, called from inside the wooden house.
"Just a moment! Let me put away my rake." Even if it was my seventeenth birthday, I still needed to work. I tended the garden and it exhausted me every day.
I put my rake away in the small storage space just a bit underneath the house. All farming equipment was put in there and locked till morning. There are always crooks around and having to replace them would be too much work.
My father supplies the village and the castle with vegetables and fruits, as well as his fellow farmers throughout the village. The king pays them well but it is still not enough. Not for a family of six, including me.
I have two younger brothers, Nolan and Xander who is five years old. My grandmother lives with us too, right after my grandfather died. My mother had us all work out in the garden while she, my father, and grandmother worked in the fields.
We needed all the money and help we can get.
I wiped my hands on my skirt and I hurriedly ran inside. When the door shut behind me, I was surrounded by darkness.
"What is happening around here?" My eyes adjusted to the darkness and suddenly lots of candlelight were around me and the faces of my family and friends.
"Surprise!"
"Oh dear!" I cupped my face as I grinned.
"Happy birthday Ezra!" Everyone chorused. At the same time my mother walked out with a treat I have only eaten twice in my lifetime. Well, I called it a treat for it was hard to afford.
"A cake! Oh thank you everyone!" I happily said.
Nolan walked over until he was at my side. "It was my idea to bring in a cake from the baker in town."
"You did? Thanks Nol," I said as I hugged him.
"Ugh move away! You're covered in dirt and I just changed. Mother will be cross!"
I sat down at the table as I shook my head just when my mother set down the beautiful cake before me. It had one candle on it and I looked at every single person in the room. My mother, grandmother who waved at me eagerly, Xander who was clinging onto my mother with sleepy eyes and my dear friends, Mila and Will. But my father was nowhere in sight.
I quickly frowned. My mind snapped out of it when everyone started to sing. Midway in the song, I saw my father come in and immediately joined in.
I smiled. Everyone was here and I could finally relax.
Once the song was over, everyone clapped when I blew my one candle, secretly making a wish.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What did you wish for?" Mila asked me. Cake was passed to everyone. I have gotten hugs and was able to eat two slices of cake.
I looked at her with my eyebrows raised. "What makes you ask that?" After that, I stood up and left my empty plate behind as Mila whispered, "Because I know you." Then she laughed.
