"So your turn, Mila, look for a frightful shadow," Will said.
Mila looked around. "Mmm okay let's see."
We were walking back to the entrance of the Gathering House, we had basically walked around the place to spend some time together since I'm only free at night.
Finally Mila pointed at a shadow near a light post. "Over there! It looks like a fury bear!"
"Have you ever seen a bear before?" Will asked.
I laughed. "Of course Will!"
"Yes Will! In school books remember?" Mila replied, rolling her eyes.
Will laughed and wiped his eyes full of tears. "I love these walks."
"Me too but I always get sleepy so I have to go now," I said, yawning.
"Mmm, me too. I have to run! Bye you all!" Mila then ran down the street.
Will and I watched her till she was out of sight.
"Well Mila sure is full of energy," I commented.
Will nodded. "She really is."
"Well Will I have to go," I said. "I'll see you tomorrow." I hugged him and ran off as well.
I returned home after my nightly walk with Mila and Will. My mother came up to me with a letter in her hand. She had a questioning look on her face.
"Looks like you got a letter, a very important one too."
She handed me the letter. I grabbed it and torn off the seal, a seal that must have cost a lot, and read the letter. Well after I observed the paper. The paper felt thick and the writer definitely had lovely penmanship. My eyes skimed through the words. Every word made me feel much joy and nervousness.
It was from Queen Kiana of Austen.
She invited me over to Austen for a ball. Getting there was not a problem, she was going to send a carriage. The problem was that I needed an escort.
I could go over there alone and she can introduce me to someone. Would that work? I shook my head. Then shrugged. Oh well.
The ball was a week from now so that meant the carriage was scheduled to come in two days tops.
Unfortunately I couldn't bring my family, I only had two invitations in hand. It read:
Miss Ezra and guest
Maybe Gabriel would be there, maybe there I could do what I must do.
He had to be there.
The ball was Austen's annual winter ball. Apparently it was one of their greatest passion, hosting balls of the season.
I talked with my parents and grandmother that night. Xander was already asleep and Nolan was washing up for bed.
"I really want don't want to go back to that world," I confessed. "It's been a long time and...." I shook my head and let out a long breath.
Ezra, you could do this! If you want Gabriel back, you must do this!
But what if he's not there?
Of course he will be there!
