"Is that really what you want? Honestly I thought it would be a big request." Queen Keira shook her head, almost laughing in relief.
"It is something big," I argued. "My family needs this."
"You're asking me if we would send my guards every season to reassure your family that everything is okay? Sounds rather small to me."
"Will you do it?" I asked.
She thought about it some more and nodded. "Yes."
I wanted to smile but if I did, would she change her mind? "Thank you."
"Don't mention it to anyone," she added.
"Another thing," I said. I could have been pushing my luck.
"And that is?"
"Can I see my family?" I asked.
"Out of question!"
I frowned. Well she had given me so much already so I decided to just accept it. I would see them again. I curtsied. "That is all, your Majesty."
Just in time, Prince Gabriel returned. "Remind me again, why is she here with us?"
"Good question but she is here because well...should I even explain this?" Queen Keira asked.
Prince Gabriel narrowed his eyes. "You and I will need to talk about this. Meet me at the drawing room."
She frowned and linked her fingers, cracking them in the process. She looked like she was going to destroy. Her piercing green eyes sink through Prince Gabriel's and it was like she was out to reach deep inside him and kill him.
It was the most evil stare I ever saw.
But when she spoke, it was like a voice as sweet as an endearing angel. "Of course my son." And she went off, leaving us alone.
"Well thank you for escorting me to bed," I said.
"I did it for your own good." He crossed his arms. "Oh and good acting surprise back there."
"Oh acting? I wasn't acting my surprise back there, your Highness."
"Oh?" He uncrossed his arms. "So you were really surprised?"
"Yes. I thought you never got close to any woman," I said. "You're not even close to your own mother."
He looked taken back, like my words hit him. Though he easily shook it off.
"Why? Why would you be surprised? It doesn't make sense," he asked, curiosity in his intimidating eyes.
I looked deep into his eyes. It looked like he was looking for something more, a better answer than I first thought. "Maybe because I thought you couldn't love."
"How do you know I have ever loved someone?" he asked.
I blushed. This was such an intimate conversation. I never thought I would have this conversation with the Prince.
"You had all these princesses come over with, I think, impressive skills. I bet they were beautiful too since they were pampered. You didn't stick with either one of them and there was never any word about you with a girl. If you have ever loved someone then I wouldn't be here."
"Is that what you really think?" he asked.
"Yes, I sincerely do."
"One more thing." He stepped forward.
"What is it, your Highness?" I asked.
"Do you think I'm capable of love, of ever loving someone one day?"
