My thoughts were preoccupied with what was happening. I watched as everyone clapped as King Gavin, Queen Keira and Prince Gabriel signed the scroll of the alliance.

I should tell Prince Gabriel. I looked at the cheering people and the feeling that I didn't belong here washed over me. I wondered what they were all thinking when Prince Gabriel and I walked down the steps over to our table.

Eyes followed us to our table and I tried to ignored the looks that were even at me. It wasn't everybody but a few royal households.

I held my glass of wine and drank from it. I was getting more nervous every time some royals came and introduced themselves. I should tell Prince Gabriel but first I needed to find Princess Cadence.

I excused myself from the table, saying that I needed to go to the lady's room. I found Princess Cadence speaking to some princes and I paused at their side.

Princess Cadence's smile vanished when she saw me and the princes looked from her to me.

"Sorry to bother you but I need to speak with Princess Cadence," I told them.

The princes looked at Princess Cadence. "Shall we go?" They both asked her.

"Yes, this won't be long though," she responded.

The princes left, leaving us alone.

"Did you really tell everyone?" I asked.

She smiled. "Yes."

I frowned. "Why? Why did you let my secret out? You knew I would be gone soon yet you still told them all!"

She smiled and I shook my head, frustrated with her. I stared at all the royals dancing and talking. They must not know.

I turned back to Princess Cadence. "So did you?"

"Ugh why do I have to repeat myself?" She said. "Of course I did! I mean why wouldn't I? You told me you're a peasant remember? And-"

"That doesn't mean you have to tell them!"

"Compose yourself Ezra, you're in a ball for crying out loud!" She whispered, folding her arms. "Besides you should have been gone a long time ago."

I looked at the royals. "Don't you know what this could do?"

Princess Cadence shook her head, her eyes fluttering, annoyingly. "What?"

I shook my head. "I need to get out of here."

She grinned. "It's nothing personal, Ezra. You just needed a reminder of where you belong."

I walked away from her and then I heard the whispers.

Dirty blood.

Low as dirt.

Poor.

An impostor.

Liar.

I continued to walk straight with my head held high. I was near Prince Gabriel. He had just gotten up from his chair and was looking for me through the crowd of people. Finally he spotted me and walked over to me.

Get a hold of yourself, Ezra. Don't break down.

He took my hands in his. "Let's dance."

"Okay but, um, I have something to tell you first," I said.

He furrowed his eyebrow. "Is something wrong?"

I sighed. "They all know."

At first he didn't register what I said then realization sunk in. "They know?"
