The ball was over and Prince Gabriel was escorting me back to my room. I took off my white gloves once we reached the halls. They were making my palms itchy. I scratched them as we walked onto my hall.

After we had finished eating, we danced through a couple more songs. Prince Gabriel made sure not to laugh or even show any sign of enjoyment of being with me.

Pathetic.

I turned to look at him as we reached my door.

"It was kind of you to escort me, your Highness." I curtsied.

Prince Gabriel ignored me as he turned the knob of the door and then opened it. "Don't roam around the castle, remember that."

He gestured me to go inside. I held my tongue and entered my room. When I turned around to wish him goodnight, the door slammed at my face.

It was nights like this one that made me miss my family so much more than I ever thought possible. It have been a week already and I missed their warmth and love.

I missed being hugged and loved. Here everything was just so cold. I don't see any emotion except maybe a smile that lasts in a blink of an eye.

It was nights like this one when the royals treated me so harshly that made me desperate to go home because every night I fall asleep broken.

It was harsh because I never met such cold-hearted people. I rang my bell for my maids to help me out of my gown. As I waited for them, I took off the pins out of my hair and the silvery thin ribbons and set them down on the vanity table. I entered the private bathroom and there I found a cloth and wet it with water in a bowl that sat on the marble counter. I smudged off the makeup. Finally, I could feel fresh and natural.

I walked back into my room. I checked if I still had any makeup left in the mirror. Nope, no makeup left. I brushed my hair till my maids arrived. They helped me out of the dreadful but beautiful gown and into my nightgown.

"What's wrong, Miss Ezra?" Penny asked as she puts away my gown in a bin.

I opened my mouth but couldn't speak. There was a lump in my throat and I fear I might cry again.

"You can tell us anything," Elena said.

I looked at them closely. They both looked to be the same age as me though two years older I believe but close to my age. I convinced myself that they would understand. They must have been working in this castle for a long time.

"I just miss my family," I said in a tiny voice.

Both of my maids looked at each other and I could see that they feel sorry for me.

"Don't you miss yours?" I asked as I sat on my bed.

"Of course I miss my parents, Miss Ezra but I know I'm helping them by being here." Elena came to my side and soothe my back. "I'm here for a reason and that's to bring money for them."

Penny joined. "Same reason I'm here too."

I nodded. "So we're all here for them."

"It's all we can do to support them best," Elena said.

I looked up at her. "But you can still see them whenever you like right?"

"At times but not often. Well we must be off to bed. Goodnight Miss Ezra." Elena and Penny curtsied and left the room.

They still curtsied to me even though they know I'm a peasant. I smiled but once I remember how alone I felt before them, I returned to my sad state.
