Days had passed by, and the group was still worried about Dustin. They were worried that he wouldn't make it for any longer, however, they still haven't thought of a plan that would be discreet enough to get past the site director.
Freddie, stumped into making a plan, decided to talk to Riley about the situation. He walked over to the field, where the sergeant was shooting at some targets with his pistol.
"Hey, Riley..." he greeted the sergeant.
"Oh, hey, Fred." the sergeant acknowledged his presence. "You need something?"
"Kinda..." Freddie answered. "I wanted to ask you something... hope you don't mind."
"Sure, I got plenty of time anyways..." the sergeant responded. "What did you want to talk about?"
"It's... it's about Dustin..."
As soon as the sergeant heard the peacekeeper's answer, he sighed, put down his weapon on the table, then turned towards him.
"Yeah, you guys still have him on your mind, huh?"
"It's just that... I have no idea on what to do, Riley... none of us do." Freddie told the sergeant. "I'm supposed to figure out at least something to get him out of there... but it's really hard to think about what to do..."
"Hey, don't stress about it too much..." the sergeant reassured the peacekeeper. "The captain's also struggling with this, considering that she sent us to get him in this problem..."
"And... what's she doing right now?"
"I'm right here."
The two looked to see the captain, walking towards them. Her expression seemed to be serious, however she seemed bereft somehow. The two saluted her, but she didn't salute back.
"No need for that..." the captain told the two, which they understood.
"Do you need something from us, ma'am?" Freddie asked.
"Nothing for me..." the captain answered. "I want you two to go out to our boundaries and patrol around. You know, so we can ensure our safety here..."
"Patrol work, ma'am?" the sergeant asked. "Shouldn't the guards be able to handle that already?"
"Da, but the guards are all occupied at the moment so I thought a few of us would be able to fill in their place..." the captain answered. "Besides, it's only simple work. Maybe you'll find a few snakes here and there, but it's nothing to worry about..."
"Ma'am, what are you talking about?" Freddie asked.
"There's nothing else to talk about, corporal." the captain waved off the question. "Just go on to our boundaries and scan the areas. Any second wasted talking would be dangerous. Now, get moving."
"Okay, ma'am... understood." the sergeant responded, then turned to the peacekeeper. "Come on, Fred, let's patrol the area."
"Got it, Riley."
With that, the two started to walk towards the boundaries of the site to begin patrolling around and ensuring its security.
-----
Moments passed, and the two were nearby a treeline, still scanning through to guarantee the site's safety.
"Alright, this is the last area we need to secure..." Riley told the peacekeeper. "After this, then were done with our rounds."
"Alright, sounds good..."
The two had continued walking on the boundaries, that is until the sergeant had heard some rustling noises in the treeline. The sergeant stopped the peacekeeper from walking by putting his arm in front of him, which confused him.
