"And she's late..."
A park ranger sighed as he checked his watch, seeing that his partner was late for her shift. He was sitting idly by the park ranger's headquarters, waiting for her.
"How long will it take her this time?" the ranger asked himself. "Thirty minutes? Maybe even an hour..."
"Hendrick!"
He saw another park ranger run up to him, running as fast as he could. He sighed, knowing already that this was her partner for the shift, meeting up with her as she stopped to catch her breath.
"Cooper..." the male park ranger sighed. "This is the third time this month, and it's only the first week."
"I know, I know, it's just... the traffic and..."
"I don't care..." the male park ranger interrupted. "Listen, if this keeps happening, Gordon's gonna have to fire ya..."
"I know, I know..."
"Right, now come on, we gotta get going." the male park ranger spoke up, leading the way. "We got a lot to do, and let's get outta here before Gordon finds out that you're late again."
"Alright..."
With that, the two park rangers walked up to their vehicle, with Hendrick on the driver's seat and Cooper on the passenger's seat, and began their patrol of the area.
"Right, so what's on the list today?"
"First off, we'll cruise around the park to keep an eye on the wildlife..." the male park ranger began to enumerate. "Then we'll do some trash work, and at about one-thirty, we'll cover for LeBlanc for the afternoon tour."
"Afternoon tour?"
"Yeah, the kids at the nearby primary school are gonna head over here for their field trip." the male park ranger responded. "So you better review some of those books back at base so we can teach 'em a thing or two."
"They're way too thick though... they're like a gazillion pages."
"Hey, I didn't make the damn books. Besides, it'll be a waste of work if you're gonna let them collect dust in the corner somewhere."
The female park ranger groaned as she looked out of the window. As the vehicle continued down the path, she noticed something ahead; she could only see a small peculiar biped in the distance, then began to run towards the right side of the road.
"What the?"
"Hey, stay focused..." the male park ranger spoke up, then sighing. "For God's sake, it hasn't even been five minutes and you're already spacing out."
"Sorry..." the female park ranger looked out the window again and muttered. "What was that?"
As the vehicle continued to drive along, the two then began to hear something to their right side. Loud gunshots rang out, as if heavy firearms were within the vicinity.
"What the hell was that?"
"Were those gunshots?"
"This isn't even close to the designated hunting spot..." the driver got his sidearm ready. "Alright, let's go."
