The blonde girl ran as fast as she possibly could. Her legs ached and her body was tired.

She didn't want to do this anymore. She didn't want to run.

Her whole life she had been running. Running from her responsibilities, her family, even her boyfriend. Boyfriend. She let the word run over and over in her head until she heard the sirens again.

They were louder this time. And there were tons more footsteps.

No. They can't see me like this. She thought to herself. She was exhausted but if she got caught, she would have to endure so much more than exhaustion. The endless questioning, having to face them all again. Having to face him again.

She tried to push all the images that swirled in her mind. His brown fluffy hair, freckles and piercing blue eyes. She didn't want to see them. Him. Not like this. What would they think of her? Tears formed in her eyes. A mix of adrenaline and guilt.

The memories of all the people from her past kept coming up until she hit a dead end. Fuck. She thought.

"Chicago PD! Put your hands where I can..." the voice slowly trailed off and walked steps closer to the girl.

Her body shaking. Her eyes bloodshot. Hair so brittle it looked like straw. And the expression on her face was heartbreaking. The look in her eyes. The officer couldn't bear to see her like that, so instead she walked gently and easily over to the scared blonde and held her hand out.

"Hey Erin" the other woman said. As the scared girl took her hand and walked over to the rest of their squad with her.

"Kim... Is Jay here?" the blonde girl asked the officer. Who looked at her and nodded softly. Shit.

They walked out of the alley and into the sun a little more. It was July so the air was warm and the sun on her skin felt boiling hot.

She was the only one that felt that way though.

Being locked inside a bar all day long with nothing but liquor to drown your sorrows in makes coming outside that much harder.

They rounded the corner and all the officers on scene had their breath caught. It couldn't be. Could it? Is that where she was all this time?

She looked sick. Unhealthy. Probably tired too. They all thought but one young detective didn't even lift his gaze. Instead he looked at the ground and drew circles in it with his foot.

He couldn't bear to look up.

The second he saw that silver bracelet on her wrist his heart stopped. She kept it all this time.

Where did she go? How did she end up like this? So many questions ran through his mind as he stood rooted to the ground drawing symbols with his boot.

The blonde was embarrassed.

She didn't dare meet anyone in the eyes before she was put into the back of a squad car in the softest way possible. And she'd forever be grateful for that.

The arresting officer walked back over to her crew and exhaled a sharp breath.

"What the hell was that?" One of the men asked.

"Adam honestly I have no idea. And I have no idea what's going to happen now" Kim said. And it was true. Erin was no longer under the protection of Voight. She wasn't 'his girl' anymore. She was on her own.

"She isn't welcome back here. And she knows it" the young detective said. Before getting in his car and driving off.

Everyone was surprised he didn't do so much as glance at her. But again they understood why. He was hurt.

She hurt him.

"Jay should sit this one out" Another male detective said boldly.

"Al..." Kim's voice faltered. She knew he was right but at the same time she knew there was more going on in Jays mind than what he let on.

She was his best friend. But she knew that some stuff he just didn't want to share with anyone. Well. Maybe one person. Which is why he needs to sit this out. Kim thought before kicking herself.

"She got into this mess. She can get herself out. Wether it's jail, parole or whatever she chooses. That's her choice. She gave up on everything the day she walked out that door and gave up her badge. And we all know it" Another blonde detective spat.

Her tone was flat and level, yet the fire in her eyes burned like a thousand suns. She too had been hurt, but she wasn't about to let anyone know that now was she.

"Haileys right. Erin gave it all up the moment she walked out that door and never looked back" one of Kims colleagues said.

"Hailey, Antonio you guys aren't being fair. Erin had her reasons" Kim started to speak before she got cut off.

"Kim I know you were close with her. But whatever she had goin on had something to do with this. You know that" Kim's partner said.

"Yeah Kev I know but guys. Come on. She was one of us" Kim pleaded to her friends.

"Yeah she was" Antonio said with a bitter tone before he and Al turned into their car and left.

Hailey and Adam did the same. Leaving only her and Kevin on the scene.

It had hit Antonio really hard. He was mad he never got an explanation as to why Erin just bolted off like that with no warning. And left everyone in the dust worrying about her all hours of the day.

Kevin gave his partner an apologetic look before they too got into their car and drove back to the district.

The blonde fidgeted in her chair. The symptoms of withdrawal already setting in. Her whole body was violently shaking.

She tried to convince herself that she was on the wrong side of the table.

Two years ago she would've been the one questioning the person who would've sat in her chair. Why did she do this to herself?

She kept saying in her head. She knew they'd be watching her through the glass. Watching her. Judging her. The only person she wanted to see was him. She wanted him to be the one to watch.

Everyone else was practically irrelevant to her at the minute. Until she saw the door open and her heart sunk. Never mind.

She had hoped not to see two people today. Yet here they both were sitting in front of her.

With a look she'd never fully understand.
