The sirens rung in Erin's ears as the ambo sped off to Med.

Jay was alive thankfully, but he wasn't conscious. The paramedics had given him some meds and fluids to hopefully wake him up a little. After a few minutes more they arrived at Med and Will rushed out.

"This is my brother!" he called out to Maggie.

"Alright everyone, we've got CPD incoming. Jay Halstead" Maggie yelled out across the ED as Brett and Gabby rolled Jay into the ED with Erin and Adam hot on their tail.

"Unconscious after a fainting episode, not sure why. Gave him fluids and oxygen on the way. BP 102/63, O2 is at 99% and SATS 98%" Brett told the doctors working around Jay as Adam held Erin back as she was crying, just watching them stick tube after tube after tube into her boyfriend.

He was alive. Just unconscious. He's gonna wake up. She kept telling herself.

Adam just kept her wrapped up tight in a hug trying not to let his emotions take over as well.

The detectives made a call to the unit, they now had three detectives at Med. Two for shooting and one for an unsolved fainting episode.

They had four healthy detectives and one on strict desk duty for at least another week and a half. Intelligence was falling apart.

Erin was also worried for Voight, the stress of being four detectives down and not knowing if two of them would make it is terrifying.

After a while Voight, Antonio, Kevin and Al came in through the ED doors, greeted by the doctors and Ms Goodwin. Voight had a lot on his mind, he had just decided to shut down Intelligence for the rest of the month until he can get at least two more detectives.

He couldn't pull anyone up from patrol as they weren't ready. Voight cleared it with the Ivory Tower which were none too pleased about his decision but understood it.

He continued walking through the doors all the way to the rest of his crew and Ms Goodwin.

"Hank" Sharon said with a firm handshake.

"Sharon... how are my detectives?" Voight asked in his usual tone. It was so hard to tell if the guy cared sometimes or not.

"Kim is doing very well actually. Trudy has been with her all morning, she has been awake and alert which is really good news. Sign her body is taking well to recovery and she should be back to work soon" Ms Goodwin told Hank with a small smile.

"How's Jay?" Voight asked as Erin came over with a worried look.

"We don't know. We've been running labs, done a CT head and a full body x-ray. It's all come back inconclusive. He is alive, and his vitals are looking good so whatever this is let's just hope it passes" Sharon said with a 'I hope this passes otherwise we have no idea what to do' tone.

"And Hailey?" Erin asked gently, Sharon's expression quickly changed.

"Hailey... As you know she was doing better, then unfortunately she rapidly went downhill. We had to put her back on a vent, which is easier to get her off than ECMO. Dr Rhodes and Dr Bekker are checking in on her every twenty minutes or so. We don't know what's wrong with Hailey nor Jay but we're doing everything we can to figure it out" Ms Goodwin said with a softer expression.

"Thanks Sharon" Voight said as he shook her hand and pulled Erin into a hug.

"He's gonna be okay kid" Voight tried to reassure her. When really. He wasn't so sure himself.

Hours had passed and they were still waiting to hear back from Hailey and Jay. Everyone had been up to see Kim a couple times and Adam and Al decided to stay with her upstairs. Hailey too was upstairs but no one apart from her doctors were allowed to see her which pissed Erin off.

She was in the same hospital as her best friend
yet couldn't even see her.

Erin strolled around Jays room but didn't have much time to be pissed as she was met with a puffed out Will and Dr Rhodes. They both looked up at Erin before speaking.

"We found out what's wrong with Jay" Will said in between puffs.

"Where have you two come from?" she asked with a slight laugh.

"We ran all the way from radiology. That's the other side of the hospital" Connor said as Erin laughed again.

"So what's wrong with Jay?" she asked now over the boys antics and just wanting to know what was wrong with her boyfriend.

"Jay is anemic. Which you knew, and from the CT and cultures, it looks like Jay hasn't had anything to eat or drink in the last say 30 hours. Which is a long time to go without drinking let alone eating" Will said and Erin's racked her mind again. The case must've gotten him harder than he let on...

"Jay also has a condition called microvascular heart disease, it's the thinning of the capillary and aortic arteries. And in his case, the one artery that supplies blood to the brain. Since it has been so thin for so long, blood is still pumping through it but at a much slower pace. And with the not eating or drinking his body and mind have been starved for too long. We're taking him to the cath lab to put a stent in and hopefully widen his artery to stop this from happening in the future" Dr Rhodes said confidently before thanking him and turning to Will.

"He's gonna be okay though right?" Erin asked. A million questions running through her mind about Jay.

Was he going to be able to work?
Would he still be eligible to be a detective? Would he even be allowed to do normal people stuff?

Her mind kept spitting questions at her, so much so that she didn't notice Will trying to get her attention until a nurse popped around the corner.

"Dr Halstead, Dr Rhodes said to call you. It's Detective Upton" Wills expression changed and Erin's heart dropped. What happened to Hailey?
