Erin was still in the interrogation room before she heard a massive crash that made her flinch. That won't happen here. She said to herself, trying not to bring up old memories from her past.
She heard more bangs and crashes before the door opened and Voight stepped in with an enraged Jay. Shit. She thought. Maybe I shouldn't have done that after all.
"Detective Halstead here is going to be your new partner. Whilst you readjust" Jay's eyes flew wide open and shot a look at Voight. Hinting his displeasure. Erin was hurt. Did he really hate her that much? Then again. He did have a reason.
"Okay" Erin managed to squeak. Voight beckoned for Jay to head out of the room before more bangs and crashes were heard. Jay was angry. Voight just beckoned her gaze back to him."You'll be staying at my place for now. I'm drug testing you weekly and you're going to have a curfew. Any arguments and I'll take that badge back. Your choice" Voight said with his usual tone.
"I can do that" Erin said in a slightly lighter tone. She was annoyed at all the rules but glad that she got her job back. Erin's heart still longed for him every single day. All she wanted to do was to feel loved by him again. Him on the other hand was a different story.Jay was in the locker rooms accompanied by Hailey and Kim. His locker door was dented and so was the wall.
"She just gets to waltz back into her old job" He said as he kicked his locker. "Without having to go on any probation or anything" He kicked again. "If that was any one of us we'd be in uniforms for months" He kicked again. "But nooo Erin is so special that she just gets to come back like that out of the blue" Jay kicked again. Hard this time. Kim pulled him back from the lockers.
"You need to chill out Jay. Being angry won't do you any good" the brunette said to him. Hailey walked up and made him sit down so Kim and her were facing him."You need to sort yourself out. You can't be angry at her forever. She's coming back to work. And that may be unfair but it's how it is. We all need to accept it. You're her new partner now" Hailey said with a 'matter of a fact' tone because she knew she was right. Jay did have to get used to Erin being around and being his partner again. He couldn't run from that.
He caught a glimpse of Erin leaving to go back to her apartment being escorted by two uniforms. Huh. Jay thought. Probably so she doesn't try to score again. And before he knew it his heart took over and he grabbed his keys to head to her apartment. When he was outside he kept pacing back and forth. Was this a good idea? No. But he knocked anyway.
Erin heard a faint knock on the door. She went over to open it. Low and behold. Jay. Jay Halstead was standing on her doorstep.
"Why do you do this Erin?" he demands as he barges in.
"Do what?" she asks in disbelief.
"Leaving everyone in the dust and shutting everyone out so you can feel better about yourself" He spat. She was shocked. Did she really do that to all her friends?
"Jay calm down" She said cautiously. He was jumpy and angry. She didn't want him to hurt her. She couldn't believe she uttered those words to herself, never in a million years would Jay lay a hand on her or anyone for that matter. He wasn't like Bunny's scumbag boyfriends..."Erin no. You don't get to tell me that. After you ditched us for two years and then when we caught you since you're so precious to Voight he offers you a deal and you just get your old job back like that??" He said with a click of his fingers. Erin looked down. She knew it was true. But she couldn't bear to tell Jay that.
"Jay. I didn't stay because of Voight" she lifted her gaze to meet his. And it softened.
"I stayed because of you" as she said those words. Jay backed up cautiously. Did she really just say that? After all this time. She still loves him. Damn it. He thought. He can't deal with this right now. He mumbled something before picking up his keys and leaving. Erin quietly sobbing in the lounge. Her tears soaking up in the rug. What had she done...?Jay's eyes were teary. He was full of emotion. Did she really stay for him? What did she want? Why is she doing this to him? Jay's mind had a million questions and a million different answers. He was conflicted with wether or not to be civil and just try and be partners. Or to try and fix things like how they were before she left. There was one clear answer. His heart told him. But his head was telling him to reach for the other one. You can't fix whats already broken. He said to himself. And that was true. His relationship with Erin was long gone. And he couldn't, or rather didn't know how to find the courage to tell her he wanted to fix it. Jay was at a loss. Confused. Guilty. Angry. He was driving as fast as he could to get home in the rain. Every meter he drove he just felt his emotions become heavier. So heavy that he couldn't breathe. He couldn't feel his hands on the steering wheel of his car. He couldn't think straight and couldn't feel anything beyond the pain he felt right now. He loved her. He knew that. But he couldn't admit it. Not right now at least. He thought before he caught his breath.
Jay's breathing becoming shallow and coarse not seconds before he feels himself fall and hears tires screech. And before he knew it. Black. All he could hear was faint mumbles and people talking before everything just stopped in time.
