Chapter Thirty

Erin and Hailey had been together for quite a while so Will decided to go to Voight and Adam to deliver the good news.

"Hey guys" he said to the officers in the waiting room who greeted him with a handshake and a hug.

"Got some good news for us doc?" Voight asked with a chuckle.

"Yeah I do actually. Jays stent went perfectly thanks to Dr Bekker and Dr Rhodes. Kim is getting the all clear from us to be discharged tomorrow and she can start desk duty after three or four days of being at home. Haileys condition is truly a miracle, the last patient we had down for as long died. She's truly boggling all of our minds right now. But everything looks normal, her gunshot wound should take the same amount of time as Kim's to heal. But we expect them all to make a full recovery and be back kicking ass in no time" Will said with a smile as the waiting room erupted in cheers and relieved sighs.

Voight thanked Will as he went back over to the room which contained all three of his injured detectives.

"Upton, Halstead and Burgess. Now there's a trio" he said with a chuckle before giving them each a quick shoulder squeeze and sighing.

"Guys I have something to tell you all.." Voight said as all his detectives looked up at him.

"I've decided to shut down Intelligence" He said before the room erupted with repercussions and protests, "Guys listen. With three of you out, and one of you on desk duty I don't have enough detectives right now, people from patrol can't handle our unit yet. So Intelligence is being shut down for the rest of the month until I get at least two of you back" he said pointing playfully at Hailey, Jay and Kim. Who all gave him a 'thanks for the laughs boss but we want to work' smiles.

"You're all still getting 3/4 pay so you'll be fine for these next two ish weeks. It's not long. Just so you three can get back up on your feet and we can get back to work" Voight said as he gave hugs and shoulder squeezes before taking Al and leaving the rest of the unit together.

Kim had Kev on her bed, Jay had Erin and Antonio and Hailey had Adam. They were all making conversation about how confused they were with Voights decision. It was so sudden but understood.

"Hey guys how about we go to Molly's tomorrow night after you lot are discharged from this prison" Adam suggested to his crew before they all smiled and agreed.

Jay smiled and rubbed his finger on Erin's cheek. Antonio had gone to sit with Hailey for a bit whilst Kev swapped with Adam.

Erin leaned onto Jays chest, she could hear his breathing coming in and out slowly and calmly.

He rubbed her back a little before slowly running his fingers through her hair which she smiled at. She had never felt more at home than right now. And soon enough she dozed off to sleep.

When she woke up, everyone was staring at her.
"Woah what happened?" she asked before she realized she was lying on Jays chest and he just looked at her with a smile.

"You were asleep that's what happened. You were out cold for like 10 hours until you finally woke up. We had to get Will to check your heart to make sure you didn't die" Antonio said as the room filled with laughter.

Erin felt so embarrassed but it was good to feel like this again. She finally felt back in her place with everyone, like she finally fit that piece of the puzzle back into her life and now it was all coming together again.

She had an amazing boyfriend, a great dad and an amazing family.

In the span of under a year, Erin had seen her friends, ex boyfriend and father who were going to charge her for seven years on a dime bag.

She requested to join back again, got kidnapped then saved.

Then got back with her ex boyfriend and now is going to Molly's with her friends exactly how everything used to be.

Erin was at peace with it.

She didn't know what the future held, but she was optimistic that it was something good.

She looked around the room and all she could see was love.

The way Hailey and Antonio laughed together. The way Kev, Kim and Adam had a little friendship circle going on there.

And then Jay, her Jay.

He looked at her with such a loving smile before coming closer and locking lips with her. Before hearing audible groans from the rest of her team.

"Ewwwww PDA" Adam screeched.

"Yeah guys get a room!" Hailey piped in before everyone got pillows from off the beds and decided it would be the best idea to have a pillow fight.

Yes.

A pillow fight in the middle of their hospital room.

The most elite unit in Chicago, tearing each others heads off with feathers and tickling one another to death.

Laughs and screams filled the room as Hailey, Erin and Kim got, tackled by the boys. Watching their injuries of course. And were in the process of being tickled to death.

"Stop I'm going to pee my pants!" Kim screeched at the top of her lungs before someone clearing their throat in the doorway made them all stop and stare.

Voight and Al were standing in the doorway, unreadable expressions on their faces. The unit all got together and stood up before their boss, whom failed at trying to stifle his laughter.

Everyone looked at each other in shock, did Hank Voight just laugh?

"You guys know how ridiculous you all look right now" he pointed to his team.

They were all covered in feathers, they looked at each other and everyone burst out laughing. This was the best way to spend time in a hospital.

"Alright, Detecives Upton, Halstead and Burgess. You're all free to go" a nurse popped in and said. Everyone smiled at one another before heading out the door.

"Who's ready for Molly's guys?" Adam called out as everyone screamed their agreements and laughs before heading out the hospital doors.

This was a good day.
