Jay rounded the corner of the corridor that led to Erin's room. As soon as his eyes lined up with a clear view of the room, there she was.

Lying peacefully reading a magazine like nothing had happened.

Jay felt the lump in his throat form then disappear as she saw him and beckoned for him to come in. Jay looked back at Voight, his boss nodded and he just ran straight into Erin's arms.

She stroked his head gently with her hands whilst he buried it in her lap. Her touch was warm, and reassuring.

Jay lifted his eyes slightly and cupped Erin's cheek with his hand.

"I thought you were gone for good. Erin I was so scared that you wouldn't"

"I love you Jay. So much" she cut him off. His seemingly relaxed expression turned into a smile.

"I love you too. More than anything" Erin returned the smile.

They exchanged a fleeting kiss for a second before Jay saw Hailey nervously scurrying outside the room.

He cocked his head and one side of his mouth turned into an empathetic grin. He got up and kissed Erin on the head softly before opening the door.

As soon as the door opened the blonde ran into the room and straight into her best friends arms. Her eyes watered as she still couldn't fathom how real Erin's touch felt, and how she thought she'd never feel it again. Hailey and Erin were now engulfed in a hug sobbing their hearts out to one another.

"I'm sorry" Hailey said regretfully.

"What why? You have nothing to be sorry for" Erin grabbed her best friends hands.

"I didn't, I didn't protect you. I didn't even see them, I just saw you on the ground. All I could think about was" Haileys voice broke and more tears formed.

"Come here Hails" Erin pulled her friend into her chest for a hug. She gently stroked Haileys blonde hair, it was soft and pulled back into a loose braid.

Her hair felt so much like Jays under her fingertips. She never thought she'd be able to feel her boyfriends touch, hear her best friends voice, or see her family ever again.

Yet here she was.

Stroking her best friends head whilst she knew Hailey blamed herself for what happened to Erin.

Hailey had never felt so relieved.

She could feel Erin's small yet warm hand stroking the strands of blonde hair on her head. The feeling she'd never thought would ever exist again.

Yet here she was, still trying to figure out if this was real or not.

It was almost like she believed she'd be woken from this gorgeous dream any minute, she wanted to hold on forever.

This is the life she wanted, working for an elite unit. Calling them her family. She wanted all of it. But she still couldn't believe it was real.

Almost like, Haileys whole life had been a test from the moment she opened her eyes.

She expected the jolt to come and bring her back to the reality of daily beatings and alcohol induced scream downs. Her whole life it almost seemed like the jolt would come but it never did.

Some days she was okay and others she was drowning with no one to reach in and save her.

Until she met Erin. Jay. Voight. Adam, Kim and Kevin. Antonio, Al. Her family.

Hailey had never felt more at home than she did whenever she was in the bullpen, at Molly's or getting together with them. Like this had been her destiny all along. Like this was all she was ever meant to do with her life.

Help other people that were in the same situation that she was.

And a vow she made and promised to keep. She would help anyone she could, whenever she could and even if she didn't know how. She'd find a way. She always did.

Hailey was brought out of her train of thought by a hand giving her shoulder a squeeze. It was Voight.

"Can I have a minute?" Hailey nodded, gave Erin another squeeze and a kiss on the forehead before heading out the door and smiling at her best friend.

Voight meandered over to Erin with his usual step, took her hand and squeezed it gently.

"You feeling ok kid?"

"Yeah I mean. I don't know, but physically yes. Mentally, I don't know yet" she conceded.

"You're a fighter Erin, so fight for this. Fight for them" Voight tipped his chin to Jay and their whole unit. Then pulled out a photo of Haddy, Jay and Voight at Hanks house. They were in the backyard and the two men were chasing Hadley Mae through the sprinkler. Erin guessed that Hailey took it.

"Fight for her" Voight passed her the picture and she let her fingers caress it gently. Voight gave her a smile before he too headed out.

Jay let all the others pop in for a quick visit before heading back to the district. He was waiting on a special someone to be brought to the hospital any minute now.

Luckily for him he didn't have to wait too long as a little girl ran down the hall, twin braids bouncing off her back and her goofy smile lighting up the whole hospital.

"Daddy!" the little girl said as she ran into Jays arms. He picked her up and planted a kiss on her cheek before thanking Helen.

"Okay Haddy. You need to listen okay?"

"Okay" Haddy probably wasn't going to understand what he was about to say. But she should try and know what had happened before everyone starts confusing her.

"Do you see Mommy right there?" Haddy nodded.

"Well you see, your mom was in a really bad accident at work and she got hurt. Which is why she's here, instead of at home with you. And me. Do you get it?" Haddy nodded again before Jay decided to give up on the conversation and walk into Erin's room.

The pure joy on her face was such a blissful thing to see.

Haddy brought out the best in anyone she ever met, and much like her mother. Was an absolute wizard when it came to picking up stuff, emotion wise.

She was very aware of what was going on in the room but she just snuggled closer to Erin whilst Jay stroked Erin's hair.

Never wanting this moment to end.
