"You should teach me that sometimes." Jungkook said pointing to his bodyguard's handiwork, having broken the lock on the door to Taehyung's apartment within minutes. "Those hacks might come in handy for me in future."

The bodyguard appeared to be visibly upset after hearing Jungkook's words. "Mr. Jeon, do you plan on breaking into more apartments after this? I-It's a crime -"

"I'm joking." Jungkook said with a chuckle, though in his mind he was already filing away the trick he had seen the bodyguard execute. "Relax. I don't plan on doing any of this in future."

"Oh okay." The bodyguard's tense shoulders drooped at his words and he stepped away, leaving the open door to Jungkook. "I'll knock three times as a warning, if I hear him coming up the stairs."

"Okay. That's good enough." Jungkook nodded and turned the knob to Taehyung's apartment.

A part of him was excited, but another part of him was equally nervous. What was he about to stumble upon? Some ancient secrets or magic, just like Jimin had described? Would it be sinister or just something useless that Jungkook hadn't thought about before?

With a deep breath, he pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind and open the door. It swung inward with a light creek. He sensed the bodyguard step into shadows away from the door, and Jungkook closed it behind him, shutting himself in the darkness.

His harsh breath broke the dark silence within the apartment.

"Where is the light?" He muttered to no one in particular and began to drag his hand on the wall beside him. A few minutes of struggle later, his fingers brushed the button and he flipped it on.

Dim white light flooded the apartment, throwing everything into focus and Jungkook's eyes widened at the sight in front of him.

He didn't know how to put it into words, except – everything was clean, surgically clean.

White walls, white floors, white lamps, and white kitchen cabinets with not a speck of dust in sight. The building hadn't looked that great from the outside, but now that he was inside one of the apartments, he could tell that the place was spacious, the apartment was spacious, and not as dingy as he had envisioned it to be from outside.

Sure, the building was old, and the apartment too hinted on a recent renovation on old floor plans, but the structure had held on and fared well under harsh weather.

If it hadn't been so desolate and ringing with the stench of abandonment, Jungkook would have termed the place as being cozy.

But cozy it wasn't...in fact Jungkook couldn't even attach the word 'home' to it. It was a far cry from looking remotely close to a place that a human lived in.

It was as if Taehyung had tried his best to erase every lingering presence of him from his apartment. And with the way everything looked, he had succeeded.

There was a hollowness to the place that made Jungkook shiver where he stood. With little furniture to stop the cold from seeping into his bones, Jungkook couldn't help but rub at his arms trying to get rid of the goosebumps crawling on his skins.

He wasn't going to enjoy his time here...at all.

For a minute he even thought of going back and giving up on his search. But, his stubbornness stopped him. He hadn't come this far just to run away from it.

He needed something, some proof of Taehyung's life, his past, his present, anything that might point to his possible suspicious character.

But, what could he find in this barren place? Jungkook wondered.
