Jungkook held his breath inside the closet and waited for Taehyung to enter.
He felt like one of those spies in movies who hid waiting for their enemy to enter and then attack them, catching them by surprise. But Taehyung wasn't his enemy.
Jungkook paused over that thought, and wondered if Taehyung really was an ally or a foe in disguise of an ally.
After the strange, out-of-the-world experience with the hidden room, Jungkook couldn't make up his mind whether to go along with Jimin's belief that Taehyung wouldn't harm him, since he had saved Jimin just hours ago, or go with his instinct that had labeled Taehyung's character as shady.
He was staying in a rented apartment, with a room hidden behind the closet that for all intent and purpose shouldn't exist. If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, Jungkook might have laughed at the poor soul who tried to explain the exact same situation to him.
Is that how Jimin felt? Jungkook thought. He hadn't exactly believed his friend at the get go, and had joked that Jimin was not in his right mind.
Well, in his defense, Jimin had been running away from his fans, panic and worry all over his face. It could have been that he imagined his savior to be something out-of-the-ordinary right? It could happen, maybe not as a hallucination but just an extra push of the mind to dream of a certain situation at time of peril.
He had read about it happening to people, online on a blog – a situation where the victim tends to conjure an image to boost their spirits in dire circumstances. It helps at times, and at times, like in Jimin's case it had been reality.
The door creaked open, bringing Jungkook back to his critical situation, and his body tensed in preparation...for what? He didn't know. But he was ready to face anything thrown to him, at least Jungkook believed so.
A bowed down head, covered in grey hoodie and ripped jeans came into view. He had changed his clothes, Jungkook noticed, and this made him frown. Why bother changing if no one was looking? Or was there some other reason?
Thinking back to the odd room, Jungkook recalled that there hadn't been any set of clothes lying around. Had he missed it? Or were Taehyung's clothes somewhere else?
Taehyung entered with hands full of plastic bags and Jungkook peeked from between the closet doors to make out what was in the bags. It looks like some grocery and foods. This time he had brought stuff for himself and not to give to some beggar or kids. He placed them on the kitchen counter and let the cap of his hoodie drop, and Jungkook got the first clear view of his face.
The light hit Taehyung's face at an angle, painting his face in pale shadows.
He had that look on him, the one Jungkook had seen before.
It was as if the sadness and pain hovered just above his skin, cloaking him and keeping him that torturous embrace. Why was he like this? What was causing him such misery? Jungkook still had no clue.
A sigh left Taehyung's face and he dragged his feet to towards the open door for the bedroom.
Jungkook's heart jumped into his throat at the thought of Taehyung opening the closet door. Was he going to change his clothes? It made Jungkook red in the face and also anxious at being discovered. What would he say?
"Hey! I just dropped by to say hello! You have a nice closet by the way-"
As if that was going to help, he chided his idiotic mind and settled in the closet. Jungkook closed his eyes and let out the breath, and then once again took a deep breath. He needed to stay calm and focused. If he kept to one side of the closet, maybe Taehyung wouldn't notice him. He seemed tired and lost, the way he had dragged himself to the room.
