HADDONFIELD, ILLINOIS [2005]: [FIFTEEN YEARS LATER]

"Oh, (Y/n), you CAN'T!" Your mother exclaimed in alarm, clapping her hands against the kitchen table with despair and looking at your new step-father.

"I don't understand, what's the problem?" You asked irritably, rolling your eyes as you kept on packing your things. "My friend Ali lives there. She's always discussing digital artwork with me. Her designs, my covers..."

"But-But...Oh, you don't understand...!" She groaned with frustration, clutching either side of her head while she watched you shove necessities into your suitcase and bag.

"There's nothing wrong with where I'm going. You even said I used to live there when I was a little kid. I'm simply going back." You commented calmly, rolling your eyes and zipping up your suitcase.

"You're going back to Haddonfield though!" Your mother wildly panicked, grasping either side of her arms and biting her lip.

"Okay, so...?" You sarcastically pressed, trying not to lose your cool with her and instead understand what she was so upset about.

"Fifteen years ago. There was...this little boy." Your mother remarked anxiously, causing you to release a laugh and sling your backpack over your shoulder.

"There's tons of them out there, Mom." Raising your eyebrows, you attempted to humour her - confused by her statement. "My friend Ali isn't dangerous. Nor is she a boy. I'm just going to live in Illinois from now on. Haddonfield, Illinois to be exact. And just because it's a quiet little town—"

"Still. You did all of this without our knowledge, (Y/n)." Your stepfather announced sternly, standing up before also placing his hands down on the kitchen table.

"I'm (Y/a)- years old, Dad." You coolly huffed, shaking your head and ignoring their warnings completely. "I'm not a little kid anymore. And I'm going to live with my friend Ali, whether you two like it or not."

"We know you're not a little kid anymore." Your stepfather sighed in defeat, pressing one hand against his forehead and realising that they couldn't stop you.

"We just...It's just...We want to keep you safe." Your mother unhappily joined in, reaching out one arm and placing it on top of your shoulder. "Please understand."

"I don't need to be kept safe." You told her firmly, giving her a soft kiss on the cheek and then doing the same with your step-father.

"(Y/n), please wait!" Your mother bursted out worriedly, looking as if there was something she wanted to tell you. "The little boy's mother...Committed suicide after her daughter's death. The whole family...was broken."

"Why are you telling me this now...?" You suspiciously questioned, stiffening up once you'd heard that fresh piece of news.

"What we're saying is that...that town is cursed." Your stepfather added uncomfortably, plainly not wanting you to be in any sort of danger.

"So one family was f-ed up." You uncaringly shrugged, moving towards the front door with your suitcase and your backpack. "Every town-slash-place has a messed-up past."

"It's not just that family, (Y/n)!" Hiding her face in her hands, your mother complained further; clearly distressed by something.

"That little boy slaughtered his step-father, murdered his older sister in cold-blood, and then got admitted to a sanitarium. That's why the mother killed herself." The stepfather confessed gravely, crossing his arms and trying his best to explain the situation to you.

"It can't be that bad if Ali lives there." You stubbornly spoke, still wanting to live with your best friend. "Besides, I'll be living in the same apartment building with her, so no problem there."

"Look (Y/n), I know you and Ali have a lot in common, and you're pretty close, but—"

"And we are." You agreed innocently, giving them both a wave before leaving the house. "Say Goodbye to Gabby from me!"

"Dammit (Y/n)! This isn't over!" Your stepfather snapped in annoyance, shouting after you and amusing your mindset.

Once you'd skipped out of your house, you headed towards your waiting cab and climbed in; placing your suitcase inside while holding onto your backpack. Then - after you'd finished doing that - you thanked the driver, tipped them, and then waited for them to drive, grateful that they listened to you and ignored the alarmed yells that stemmed from your mother and stepfather. Gabby was your much-younger stepsister, with dark-brown hair and sharp-blue eyes. And although you enjoyed her company, you were relieved to get away from her - finding your new life alongside Ali to be somewhat...refreshing.

Time passed - what with the long drive from Florida to Haddonfield - but eventually the cab pulled up outside the right apartment building; sixteen hours dragging by while you stifled several yawns. But— "(Y/n)! It's so good to finally meet you!" A voice called out in a well-known tone, their friendly persona striking you as very familiar.

"I could say the same!" Clapping your hands together, you bounded out of the cab and then engulfed Alina into an affectionate embrace, pleased by how real she'd turned out to be.

"Sure, no problem. Let me help you with your things."
"Let me help you with your things." Ali offered kindly, her words reminding you of something...or someone. Your...aunt...?

"Oh, uh...Sure..." You replied in a dazed manner, attempting to forget your exhaustion whilst you watched her turn her attention back towards your cab.

"I'm sure you're really tired." Ali sympathised soothingly, holding your suitcase and leading you into the building. "After all, that was almost an entire day's drive."

"Yeah, no kidding. The drive was sixteen hours." You told her in amusement, following her into the apartment building and accepting her help. "I think I might sleep for a bit though."

"No worries." Shooting you a soft smile, Alina placed your things in your new room and let you sit down on your new bed; noticing how tired you were. "Welcome to Haddonfield."

"Ahaha, thank you." You grinned mischievously, giving her another hug before beginning to unpack.

Once you had, you tucked your clothes into your drawers and hung some things into the wardrobe; excited by your new room and best friend. Alina was awesome - all she turned out to be - and Haddonfield seemed to be a pleasant-enough town. Your parents were just overreacting, that's all. You didn't know what they were talking about - especially when it came down to that silly little story. It was probably nothing. So you decided to forget about it - pushing the town's dark history to the back of your mind and instead changing into your pyjamas. Sliding into your bed, your eyes fluttered shut, your tiredness taking over you while you relaxed.

Then, when you woke up; it was Monday morning, your stomach rumbling due to you wanting breakfast. "Ali...? You awake...?" You wondered gently, stumbling out of your apartment and knocking against her door.

"I'm sleeping—" She mumbled faintly, her tired tone making you laugh and knock again.

"You missed your alarm. It's already 10:30." You lightly told her, finding her sleepy state hilarious as she stumbled to unlock her door.

"Mm...But I don't have to create my digital art until 12pm." The blonde girl murmured under her breath, rubbing at her eyes and pushing her messy hair back.

"I will tickle you." You threatened childishly, poking Ali's cheek whilst you playfully threatened her. "So—"

"Okay, okay, I'm awake!"
