"H-Holy shit..." You whispered tearfully, hugging your arms whilst you couldn't help blaming yourself. "Is she...Is she alright...?"

"She'll be fine, don't worry." He feebly answered, flashing you a faint smile as he attempted to comfort you. "Claire's keeping her company at the moment. Y'know, while professional physicians and trained medics help your mother recover."

"I...I just don't understand though..." You weakly spoke, running a hand through your hair and trying your best not to break down yourself. "Surely she must've gotten reports from the police about my reappearance. About how I successfully escaped."

"By the time they'd arrived, only I could speak to the police officers. She'd already lost it." Your stepfather replied with regret, releasing another sigh as his smile turned sad instead. "I had to call your aunt, because there was no way I could take care of your mother, and make sure Gabby was kept safe at the very same time."

"But...But she'll definitely be okay, won't she...?" You double-checked worriedly, your concern over your mother increasing exponentially. "The doctors and nurses, they'll tell her about my well-being, right...?"

"Of course they will. In fact, I'm sure your Aunty Claire has already told her." He warmly reassured you, reaching across the living room's coffee table and giving your hands a soft squeeze. "So please don't blame yourself. From as long as I've known her, your mother has always suffered from anxiety attacks."

"It still feels like my fault..." You mumbled with shame, staring down at the table whilst you struggled not to cry.

"It wasn't your fault that that child psychologist tricked you into helping him catch an infamous serial killer - one that he'd released in the first place, may I add - only to write a sick sequel for more blood money." Your stepfather responded soothingly, his words only making you feel even worse.

After all, Dr. Loomis hadn't tricked you. You were the one that had let Michael get away with murder. You were the one that had purposely lied and dirtied Dr. Loomis's name. And in the end, you hadn't even tried to stop Michael, let alone sell him out to the authorities. All of this hurt your heart, pain pooling at the pit of your stomach while you miserably squeezed your stepfather's hands back. Regardless of what he was saying, this partially was your fault, whether you accepted it or not. Silence swirled back around the living room, neither of you knowing what to say within this awkward atmosphere. You could barely take it all it, your shock stunning your thoughts as you almost started to dissolve into tears.

"Maybe we should just push this topic to the side for a few moments." Your stepfather kindly suggested, seeing how much hurt the news and overall conversation had caused in the first place. "Seeing as this hasn't been a very fun visit so far."

"Yeah...You're telling me..." So, once you'd thrown him a rather...strained smile, you faked composure and went along with what he was saying, deciding to shelter your surprised thoughts and focus on the present.

"Maybe you'd like to see Gabby. I mean, she was extremely excited when I told her we'd be visiting you a few days ago." He mentioned with amusement - your younger sister's delight making you feel a little less pain.

"Sure. That'd be nice." You quietly agreed, dipping your head as a nod whilst he stood up and moved towards the front door. A few minutes later he reappeared; a lighthearted Gabby engulfing you into another hug like earlier before.

"Hey, (Y/n)! How are you doing...?" Your dark-haired sister greeted affectionately, her carefree attitude causing you to calm down a bit and wrap your arms around her in response to hers. "I mean, Dad said we were just visiting you to catch-up on things and visit where you live, but when I asked Alina about what was going on, she told me that you and Dad were discussing something private. Like, super duper serious."

"It's nothing to concern yourself with, so don't worry Gabs." Tucking it under the rug, you faked another friendly smile and hugged her close; glancing up at the clock on the wall and noticing how late the afternoon was becoming. Crap, Michael wouldn't be very happy - what with how long you were spending apart from him - that was for sure.

Especially since this whole thing was forcing you to feel not only fatigue, but emotionally exhausted too. "I'm just a little...worn-out, that's all. Y'know, from moving into this new apartment of mine...to focusing on my digital work...to meeting up with Alina. Those types of things. It certainly hasn't been easy."

"Oh...! I see." Gabby's expression cleared, the little girl obviously taking in the wrong idea while your awkwardness returned. "So it's just the stress of moving, right?"

"Yes...Exactly...! I've just been too tired to make a call back home and catch-up recently, so I'm sorry for that." You gently replied, letting her sit by you and wanting to seem apologetic. "I wasn't trying to make you worry."

"I know, I know...! I just wish you'd move back home...I miss when we used to watch things together...and when you used to help me with homework..." She sighed with a crestfallen glance, swivelling over to face you directly. "Didn't you have fun doing those things with me...?"

"Of course I did...! Well, maybe not the homework part - but the rest was totally fun...!" You bursted out hurriedly, holding her hands before giving them a loving squeeze. "It's just, there's so many things left here in Haddonfield that I want to find out about."

"I do think moving back to Florida is the safest choice for you, (Y/n)." Your stepfather interjected sternly, placing one hand atop your shoulder and sounding somewhat serious like earlier. "This quiet town isn't as "peaceful" and as "innocent" as it used to be."

"I know, I know, but staying with Ali and enjoying my online job is much more fun than being protected my entire life, Dad." You firmly retaliated, acting assertive and standing your ground. "Besides, this town isn't in any danger anymore, remember...?"

"Still...I wouldn't want you to be abducted or attacked a second time." He fired back fiercely, keeping his voice hushed so Gabby wouldn't pick up on what you two had suddenly started discussing. "I'd much rather you move back, or at least find somewhere else to settle down—"

"No!" You snapped with exasperation, aggression dripping through your tone whilst your agitation strengthened at the same time.

But your annoyance made her jump, making you bite your lip and wonder how to calm them both down. "What I mean to say is...While I appreciate the offer and support, Dad, I'd much rather continue living in Haddonfield, than moving back to Florida."

"You don't wanna come home...?" Gabby piped up in a tiny voice, her heartbroken face and depressed behaviour only adding to her disappointment.

"No, no! It's not like that!" You panicked, suppressing a silent groan and doing your best to comfort your sister in the process. "I just meant that I'll visit you guys over in Florida soon, m'kay...?"

"And you're sure you don't want to move back?" Your stepfather made sure with an unsure smile of his own, giving you a hug as soon as you'd stood up from the sofa.

"I'm pretty sure. Besides, there's no need to worry - I mean, I have Ali's apartment right next to mine, so I won't be in any danger this time around." You pointed out pleasantly, trying to remain positive and keep yourself from breaking down in front of Gabby.

"Danger...? From what...?" She innocently frowned, confusion clouding her face while curiosity trickled through her tone.

"Oh, nothing...Dad was just concerned over Haddonfield's...slightly spooky history." You quickly covered-up; blurring over the truth and throwing your stepfather an irritated glance. "He was just feeling a tad bit uneasy about me staying here...due to its unusual background."

"But you're not really in any danger are you...?" Gabby fretted with alarm, jumping up to stand next to you and hug your side. "Because you can always come back to Florida with us and we'll protect you."

"I know you would." You gratefully responded towards her, breaking free of your father's hug to cuddle her yet again. "I know you would. But really, I'm fine here. I'm safe here. I've got everything under control."
