You had awoken to the sound of thunder rolling in. You stirred, shifting on your bed to look out the large window across from you. The dark clouds were moving quickly over the mountain tops, preparing for a storm.
Beside you, was your boyfriend. He slept peacefully, despite the incoming noises that awoke you. You admired his delicate features under the natural lighting of the sky. Unfortunately, you couldn't see much as it grew darker in the room.
Carefully, you crept out of the bed to turn on the lights in the cabin and draw the curtains closed. You could just hear the grumbling Kihyun would make if he had to do this himself. A speech about keeping the cabin clean because it was a rental, but also a sigh in defeat after noticing your sweet face staring at him innocently. He was a sucker for you.
You began to tidy of the cabin room to keep yourself occupied. You didn't want to take too much from the suitcase, seeing as this was a brief getaway trip for the two of you. Instead, you took out some necessities and packed away everything else.
In the midst of a shower, even over the loud storm, you could hear Kihyun waking up. You were quick to washing your hair and finishing up so you could join your boyfriend in enjoying the peaceful place. You wore loose, comfortable clothing that would later be easier to cuddle in.
You came out of the bathroom, hair wrapped in a towel sitting on top of your head. "Good morning, darling," you greet with a soft smile. "Do you want to shower while I make breakfast?"
He sat up on the bed, glancing at you before nodding. "That sounds nice." He watched you carefully as you walked towards the kitchen area, grabbing things from the fridge you both stocked yesterday.
As you prepped breakfast for you both, you soaked in the the comfortable feeling this adventure brought to you. For your anniversary, Kihyun planned a nice trip out. It wasn't supposed to be anywhere fancy, nor somewhere with a lot of people. A trip where it was mainly you too, with some small events here and there around the place.
The cabin was on the mountains. It was a nice, warm and large room that had everything you would need for a couple of days. Although it was all open and you only took a few steps to go from your bed to the living room, it felt less extravagant than your apartment back home and far less maintenance to keep it up.
The storm was breezing over when you both had finished eating. Because it never ended up raining, you figured it would be nice to sit outside and enjoy some coffee in the fresh air. You tied your hair back and made a pot of coffee while Kihyun helped set up the porch. He grabbed a blanket for you to share.
Sliding the glass door open, you stepped out into the crisp cold air and breathed out a sigh in content. "It's so nice up here!"
Kihyun smiled at you. "I'm glad you like it. I honestly wasn't sure if you would enjoy being so far from everyone."
You sat down on one chair, folding the blanket over your legs and then his when he got comfortable. You positioned your hands wrapped around your coffee mug to cradle the warmth. "I absolutely love it out here, babe. You did a great job picking."
Kihyun wrapped his arm around you, pressing a sweet kiss to your temple and cuddling you close. "This is a great view."
And it was. The morning fog was still slightly over the mountains, and even with the grey clouds passing, it was a sight to see. A couple of birds passed by chirping their songs. The leaves of trees beside the cabin blew softly in the wind. It was peaceful.
"My love," he calls you suddenly, bringing your attention to him. "I'm glad you're here with me to experience this."
You smiled. "We definitely needed this time away. It's been awhile since we both have been able to have some time alone."
Kihyun shifts in his place, removing his arm. "You know, I'm grateful for you. Even though it's been more difficult lately, you never let it bring you down. You always find the positives about situations, even when I'm frustrated."
You sipped at your coffee and shrugged. "Of course. We balance each other out. It would do no good if both of us were stressed." You eyed him skeptically. "Has something been bothering you?"
He shook his head. "I'm just expressing my love is all. It's hard for me to find the right words."
You turn to look at him. "You don't have to have the perfect words to woo me, Yoo Kihyun. I know your heart more than you do. I've learned to read your actions faster--what is that?"
Your boyfriend smiled sheepishly at you, shakingly holding a tiny box in the center of his hand. He rubbed the back of his neck before meeting your eyes. "Well, if you are better reading my actions, then I'm sure you guessed what this may be?"
He carefully opened the top of the box, showing the beautiful ring he spent weeks on deciding for. Your eyes widened, both intrigued by the delicate design, and surprised at what was before you. Unknowingly, you clenched the blanket under your fist.
"My love, I've spent months trying to find the words to say for this moment. I studied proposal movies with Minhyuk for hours, and you know how that can be."
You giggled, knowing fully well how irritated he would get being alone with Minhyuk for hours.
"And yet, I still couldn't find something that matches me. Even now, I'm spouting out words on a whim. But, as you know, my actions are better and easier to understand. Will you marry me?"
He plucked out the ring from it's hold in the box. You watched him present it to you, eyes hopeful and his heart racing through his chest. Even your own heart was beating rapidly.
"Even if your words aren't the most poetic, your heart is the most beautiful thing you can give to me," you whispered, reaching for his hand. "Yes, Kihyun, I will marry you."
His eyes lit up instantly. He had to slow himself down enough to gently place the ring on your finger. After it was safe, he immediately engulfed you in a smothering hug, kissing you all of your face in excitement.
"I love you, so so much!" He yells out, grabbing your cheeks and pulling you in for the sweetest kiss of your life.
