The fresh air had made me smile. It was a lot more crisp than my stuffy bedroom room and was more appealing because of that. I had stepped out of the house for a minute after I finished wrapping presents for Christmas. The wind swirled around me and brought about a familiar chill I had grown to like.As I sat on the front porch, staring off at the snow-covered ground, I caught sight of a car strolling up into the driveway. My heart began to race in that minute, noticing exactly who was driving the vehicle. I couldn't stop myself from running to them, excitement racing through my system.
"Minnie!"
He closed the car door, turning at his nickname and giving me a half smile. When close enough, his arms wrapped tightly around me, placing a soft kiss to the top of my head like usual. "Hi, baby girl."
He took my hand, walking us into the house. He didn't say much after that, occasionally nodding at me as I talked about the different things that happened today. I pointed out how I finally finished my last minute wrapping the day before Christmas. Even asking questions about his day to get a reaction and response.
"Jaemin?" I questioned curiously after awhile of him just barely mumbling anything to me. I noticed his off stature but was hesitant to ask, worried he wouldn't want to talk about it right away.
He lifted his head away from the glass cup in his hand, something he was staring intently at. Upon hearing his name his ears perked up and bit. "Yes?"
I laughed lightly, my heart pinging just a little at his lack of interest in my conversation. I assumed it was like usual, where he didn't mean to ignore me but had a lot on his mind, and moved on. "I have a present for you that I want you to open now. I'm too impatient."
I smiled to lessen the demand in my voice, hoping he would recognize me backing down. But this time, he didn't. He didn't recognize it. His eyes had instead narrowed at me, eyebrows furrowing.
"It's tomorrow," he states. "Just wait."
I scrunched my nose and shook my head, knowing he always found it cute when I did that. I wrapped my arms around him to give him my best smile. "I can't. I'm really excited. At least one, baby," I negotiated.
Jaemin had stepped back a bit when I hugged him. He slowly put his hands on my arms, letting then rest there for a second before pushing them off his waist. He didn't meet my eyes as he turned away to head to our shared bedroom.
"I'm tired, Mika. Not tonight."
I bit my lip, watching him walk away. My heart made another pinge of hurt as a shiver ran down me. I thought to let it go, to just let him breathe until he was ready to confront the problem. I really didn't want to acknowledge the attitude he was giving me in a negative way, afraid I would jump to conclusions when it wasn't a big problem.
Laughing lightly, I rubbed at my arm. "Do you need anything baby? Do you want me to run a bath for you?" I felt more than generous today knowing he had been worked to the bone lately and Christmas was right around the corner.
Maybe he was just stressed.
Jaemin just threw a wave over his shoulder as he climbed the stairs. He stomped up them, his body lagging behind his steps as he dragged himself up tiredly.
I took a deep breath. My lips curved upward in a quick motion as I stared at the empty glass he left on the counter. My heart thumped in my chest at the weirdly distant reaction he was putting me through. But I couldn't bring myself to be mad at him. I didn't want to be.
A few hours passed of me typing away at my computer. I figured it would be easier to pass the time by writing some reports for work that was due when I got back. The sky had become dark when he dragged himself out of the room and back down the stairs. He headed towards the kitchen area, not noticing me sitting on the couch set.
