She was back.
A soft swirl of the wind took the leaves off of the ground, lifting it high in the air before letting it slowly fall back down. Tiny flakes of snow began to descend due to her presence, the air becoming cooler as she walked the streets calmly. White covered the Earth.
Her white gown dragged across the snow, the dress itself being made of frozen snowflakes and therefore didn't collect anything as she walked. When she came across a strong, built and tall tree, she couldn't resist the temptation and reached to touch it. Her cold fingers gently grazed the trunk of the tree, and a line of frost cracked down the middle.
Winter smiled at the sight. She looked at all the other trees around her, and with the wave of her hand, each one was covered in a thin layer of frost. The leaves were already far gone from the plant because of Autumn. She didn't have to worry about them.
She turns to continue her work. Although many were asleep at the time when Winter swept the town, turning everything cold, he wasn't. His eyes watched carefully as Winter placed beautiful ice crystals on the end of a tree branch. He had been wanting to see her again, and here she was.
Winter felt his gaze on her. When she glanced his way, she smiled brightly to see who it was. A beautiful human she had seen once before, years ago. Now he had grown up, watching and waiting for her to paint the town with snow. Their eyes met, sending a relief through him to see her stunning smile.
Yanan rushed to leave his room. He threw on a coat that hung up at his doorway. Quickly, his feet slipped into some boots and he ran outside the house, praying Winter was still there. And she was, much to his delight.
Winter had waited for the human male to come up to her side. She was careful with how much frost and ice she placed on the ground, worried he would slip if he wasn't paying attention. When he came up to her side, she flashed him another smile before continuing to walk.
Yanan breathed out a heavy sigh. He never thought that he would truly be able to see the Snow Princess again. It had been years since she last had saved him, when he fell down a steep hill and nearly froze to death. Now she was here beside him again, as gorgeous as he remembered. Although she didn't say a word, he knew to follow her.
The Snow Princess walked away from his home. The two of them came into a large park, empty of people. Winter used her wrists to flick up some snow in the distance, twirling it around before it became a small snowman. Yanan watched as she did this trick a few times, each time making a new thing.
"The cold can be bitter," she tells him, letting a thing of snow swirl around her hand as she talked. "But just the sight of it is beautiful. So white, and pure. It truly is something magical."
Winter let's the snow fall into her palm and form an rose. It hardens to ice and she gives it to the human. His eyes widen in surprise as he takes the rose, glancing at her curiously. "You seem to like the snow," she whispers under her breath.
Yanan nods vigorously. "I do! I love it."
Because it is a part of you.
"Why is that? Why is a human so fantasized with snow?" She peers up at him, her sharp blue eyes piercing through his own. He had peeked her interest, she couldn't deny.
Yanan gently places the ice rose closer to him. "It's beautiful. I don't know what else to say...It's what you are. And I have come to love it."
Winter stares at him, trying to understand his words. "What is your name?"
"My name is Yanan. We have met a long time ago, and I have wanted to see you ever since."
Yanan's cheeks became rosy the longer they stayed in the cold. Winter had noticed this, and began to walk back to his home. She had told him her real name, and that if he ever wanted to see the snow again, he could call upon her. She would surely appear.
As she goes to tell him goodbye, the human takes a step closer to her. "Winter," he breathes out, staring down at the stunning woman as his heart fluttered erratically. "Will you come even in the spring?"
Winter nodded. "Even in the spring. If you call, I will come."
"In the summer?"
"Even in the summer."
"Is it okay to love you?" He questions sheepishly, uncertain of his feelings. He had never felt this way before, but the way his heart clenched at the sight of her couldn't be ignored.
Winter nods again. "It is alright to love me, Yanan. For I have grown affection for you as well." She looked at the sun that was starting to reach further in the sky. "You must go into your home now. I will be leaving. I have gave your town the new season."
Yanan, happy to hear that he could see the Snow Princess again, quickly ran into his home. He waved goodbye to her for the last time before closing the door. Immediately he kicked off his boots and ran to place his rose into the freezer, using that as a token of their promise to see one another again.
