"I love you." I whispered, the words now just seemly falling from of mouth without me noticing. Another few seconds of silenced followed, to which I was about to pull away but Levi quickly tightened his grip around me--keeping me surrounded in his warmth before a shaky breath ran though his lips.

"I...love you too...you brat." He mumbled, his slightly calloused tone contradicting his entire body as warmth flushed out from his body to mine. Even his usual calming breaths now heavier enough to tickle the loose strands of my hair as he leaned to rest his head against mine.

"We should head back to base. Hange's and her squad are probably waiting for us to return with our report." I interrupted, knowing that even though we both wanted to stay in each other's embrace for longer without having to worry about our duties—it was impossible.

"Tch, way to ruin the mood." Levi complained. Slightly loosen his grip, however, still keeping a firm grip around my body. I pulled away a bit more as a chuckle left from my lips to which after Levi finally seemed to oblige as he loosened his grip and for us to part as well.

We both quickly began out trail out towards the back of the building that we had utilized to sneak into that further lead to a dark alleyway.

As we reached the door, Levi cautiously cracked the door open, watching the coast for any passing guards in case they were searching the alleyway for any lingering ruffians or convicts.

It didn't help our situation with the current rise in criminal activity. It only further pushed the Military Police brigade to further investigate every nook and cranny of Trost in search for suspicious activity. It's been getting harder to sneak into Trost with the increased amount of security personal they'd implemented around the borders of the district.

Levi moved out first, his once light footsteps which made almost no noise against the hard wooden floors that lined the building now replaced due to the broken cobblestone under his feet that cracked with each step he took. I carefully watched his movements, taking account to how even though he wasn't gazing at the ground, he was skilled enough to step in the spots that would create the least noise.

Thinking about us sneaking through and out of alleyways on watch for Military Police felt nostalgic, it really did bring back memories, however, this time there were just two of us. As I reminisced about the past, a familiar wave of pain hit my heart, which quickly migrated across my chest causing a heavy feeling to rest there. I miss them, however, I know that they're in a better place now. How would they way have lived if they were still living...

"This is quite nostalgic." I whispered, quickly following behind Levi. I swiftly took my first step out from the door before turning the knob all the way so I could silently shut it. Using the key Erwin had given me, I quietly fit it into the lock, turning it before a satisfying click sound came from the handle. Step one...successfully done.

Levi waited a few steps ahead, still concealing himself within the mask of darkness given by the shadow of the clouded night sky which oddly reminded my of the ceiling to the underground city.. "If only we had some trinkets to carry then I'd believe we'd turned back time and I was 22 again." I reminisced, a small puff of air leaving my nose before I opened my mouth again, slightly afraid of what I wanted to say next, "...At times like these I miss them."

Levi slightly turned his head towards me before returning his gaze towards the front of the alleyway again, watching his movements cautiously as he remained hidden from the small beam of light that entered the alleyway through a single streetlight that sat across next to our building.

"They're better off where they are now those two brats. I wouldn't want them in this situation, they deserve more than this shithole we're living in right now." Levi answered, although his tone stoic and sharp, his words holding a gentle meaning to it showcasing one of his best qualities--his sense of empathy. It was something he always carried, taking the farthest, most dangerous leap for those who couldn't. He valued the lives of others over his very own--something not everyone has--not even myself.
