I drew my attention to where the sound had come from earlier. That was were the Female Titan and Levi were...What was going on?
Did they end up killing it? No...Erwin wouldn't allow for that to happen. Injuring it wouldn't have caused that cry either. It sounded more like the Titan was calling out of desperation rather than pain. Was she calling out for her teammates? If so, her teammates were most likely stationed with the other troops on the outskirts of the forest. The trees are tall, and pretty bunched together so the sound would most likely not be pinpointed easily by the human ear.
"What was that?" Eren whispered out under his breath, gaping towards the direction of the Female Titan. A few moments of silence passed as we all stood frozen, unable to come up with a plausible explanation.
"It was probably nothing. We may be thinking into the situation too much." Gunter broke the silence that fell over the group. I quickly turned towards him, however, despite his reassuring words, his face held a chilling expression as he couldn't take his attention away from where the sound had resonated from earlier. What should I do...Should I tell them what I think, or try to calm them down with rational thoughts?
"Commander Erwin and them have most likely captured it by now. We shouldn't dwell to much into the unknown. Just put our faith into Commander Erwin and Levi-heichou." Eld reassured, and it seemed to calm everyone down a bit. However, the pit that sat in my stomach was still there. My instincts were telling my something was wrong, but I couldn't tell what it was. Was something going to happen to us, or was it already happening to Levi and Erwin...I don't know. Silence fell over the group as we didn't move from the tree.
After a few minutes passed, a blue flare was shot up into the sky. I cocked my head in confusion...We were withdrawing? I couldn't tell if the mission was successful or not, damn it. Levi should be returning soon though, hopefully he'll have some answers.
"Looks like were done here. Mount your horses and prepare to withdraw!" I yelled out, pushing my back up against using the trunk of the tree behind me to help me stand.
"Guess so." Oluo replied as he stood up from his spot, "I can't wait to see what that shitty bastard that's hiding inside looks like."
I furrowed my brows a bit at Oluo's statement. He'd already assumed that we captured the Titan. Did we really capture that person? If we did, why was this feeling still sitting in my stomach. I quickly let out a sigh and decided to just prepare to withdraw.
"Everyone, check your gas." I ordered, and quickly bending down onto the tree branch to check my own. The others did the same and quickly brought their knuckles down onto their gas tanks.
"Did we really get them?" Eren asked, still keeping his eyes on his gas canisters as he fiddled with the belts and buckles surrounding them that helped hold them in place.
"It's all thanks to you Eren." Petra replied, a soft smile encompassing her lips. Even drew his gaze away from his equipment, a confused look shadowing his features.
I also felt a small ray of hope shine down on us as we continued to prepare ourselves. My instincts weren't usually wrong, but maybe just this time...maybe I was overthinking it.
"Petra's right. It really was thanks to you that we got this far." I contributed, adding on a fuller smile as a wave of relief finally came over my mind.
"I didn't do much though." Eren replied, puzzled at our compliments. I looked towards Petra who gave me a small smile.
"You believed in us, remember? It's because you stuck with us that we are where we are now. It's rather hard to make the right decision, you know." Petra sweetly remarked, leaving Eren slightly speechless. He must've not known how vital his decision was in that moment. Eren turned to look at me, to which I gave him a firm nod before I finished up checking my gas. I was still pretty full.
