"I'll join the Survey Corps." Levi said while shooting a glare at Erwin, whose disgusting smile seemed to grow bigger knowing he'd succeeded.
"Good choice. Now stand." Erwin said as he took a few steps back. Reluctantly, I stood up first and Isabel and Farlan were quickly to follow. Now we were waiting on Levi...who was still on the floor. My eyes didn't leave his figure, the entire world seeming to slow down. Even the particles of dust began to sluggishly waver in the air as he sat motionlessly. Hearing a set of footsteps to my right, I looked towards Erwin who had taken a step forward. His gazing instilled on Levi.
That man has high hopes for Levi. It was written all over his face...Specifically in his eyes. Mysterious blue eyes which withheld what I could only describe as an endless craving for talent--which he'll use to I assume "wipe" those grotesques beings that reside on the surface. Yet, it's not just that...at the same time he seemed like there was a small, weird sense of hope that lingered in his eyes as he gazed down at Levi.
Another few seconds passed before Levi reluctantly stood up. A glare plastered on his face as he met Erwin's eyes before joining the others and I.
"Welcome to the Survey Corps." Erwin congratulated. I internally scoffed. Those words were more than bodiless chains. Ones we placed on ourselves to lure him in and now in order to find the key we needed to eliminate Erwin.
My gaze lifted up towards Erwin who was standing with a his chest out, feet-shoulder width apart and a his hands behind his back.
That overbearingly cocky behavior...Seems like he enjoyed the game of cat and mouse. To him, we were the mouse and he was the cat, little did he know, it was the other way around.
Momentarily after, I heard shuffling behind me--turning to see the other soldier present a salute towards Erwin. Judging from this, he must've been someone of high ranking if those other soldiers are saluting towards him. I wonder...just how powerful is this guy we were tasked to eliminate? The man who gave us this job seemed like he had something against this person...Was it a personal relation? No...it seemed more than that. But I don't know enough to make a plausibly answer.
"Now, lets return and prepare these new cadets for training."
"Roger!" The soldier behind me replied, as they began guiding us towards the 11th staircase.
This was it...the moment we would take our first steps into the surface world.
~~~
The walk was suffocatingly silent. The tension and eyes of all the soldiers watching our every moves as we trailed up the endless stuffy staircase.
We trailed up the staircase for a while before I began to see that familiar bright light hovering over the top part of the staircase. I could feel the pace of my heart quickly beginning to hasten, my feet wanting to follow, however, I knew better than to give into such urges. If these soldiers thought I moved even the slightest bit off, they would most likely think I was trying to escape--ruining any chances of gaining a reward or at this point even living.
I wasn't being held so I was walking freely alone with only cuffs on my face wrist but that was enough to remind me of the seriousness of the situation. I could tell that, even though I was joining their little Survey Corps, there was no trust in what we would or could do. For all they knew, we were criminals from the underground that would bring shame to their reputation as the mighty scouts.
Furthermore, it seemed like Erwin, who remained walking in front of us with his back turned for the entirety of the walk was testing us. With that cunning attitude, it would make sense that he'd paint himself defenseless to display his
