"Don't mention it." I replied, taking off and heading towards Levi who was further ahead. Mikasa quickly caught up. However, as I looked towards Levi, his was turned, gazing behind us. I furrowed my brows as I also turned to look at what Levi saw and my eyes widened a bit. The Female Titan laid motionless, but I grew a bit confused as I saw...tears? Tears flowed from her eyes and down her cheeks as she laid motionless.
"Y/N, fire a flare." Levi's voice caused me to turn my attention back towards him. I nodded and quickly reach the flare gun in my holster. As I grabbed a cylinder, I effortlessly placed onto the butt of the gun and twisted it—hearing a click resonate from the gun. I split away from the two as I stopped on a nearby branch and shot the flare into the air. A green flare flew up in the air, and I quickly put the flare back into my holster before taking off to join the group.
As I rejoined the group, I saw another green flare rise up into the air.
"We'll head towards that flare. Erwin and the rest of the formation is most likely under it." I stated, turning towards Mikasa, "Our horses are only a few meters away. We'll use them and conserve our gas." I ordered, and Levi and Mikasa nodded in agreement. As we moved forward, I scanned the floor for our horses.
"There." I said, pointing towards the ground where I saw the head of a horse peak out through the thickets of bushes. We quickly descended, however, as I descended I felt the trigger for my gas lock. Shit, I ran out. I quickly caught myself and swung towards a tree. I was still pretty high in the air. Levi seemed to notice and landed on the tree next to me, still holding onto Eren's body.
"Just go, I'll climb down safely." I remarked, cocking my head towards the direction of the horses. I saw Levi glance at the horses and then me, a moment passed before he stood up again with Eren's body in his arms, "Yeah, hurry." He replied, not wasting another second and jumped down. He glanced back a second time before fully turning his attention towards the horses.
I let out a small breath of nervousness. I didn't want to cause him more trouble with the way his leg was, but getting down from here was going to be a challenge. I scanned the area. What would be the best approach? I looked down as saw many thinner branches overlapping each other, and below that was at least a 50 to 70 foot (around 18 meters) drop. Damn it. The thin branches wouldn't be able to sustain my weight and I would probably end up with an another bad injury if I fell from that height.
I don't have time to waste. I quickly came up with the best idea I could.
I connected my hooks onto the large branch I was standing on, then carefully climbed onto the side of the tree. The lines of my gear were supporting my while I put my feet up against the base of the tree and carefully pressed onto the trigger to extend the line of my hook. I needed to be extremely careful, the metallic lines weren't made for descents like these. It required feather like touches with each small step I made. One wrong move and I would be sent plummeting to the floor. I carefully used my other hand to move the smaller, surrounding branches as they were flexible enough for me to bend. However, as I moved one away from my face, it slipped through my hand and flung back towards my face. I instinctively shut my eyes and felt the branch create a few small cuts on my face. Son of a bitch.
I wince as I again, pushed the branch out of the way and continued my descent down the tree. And after a minute passed, I'd reached the bottom of the tree. As my feet touched solid ground again, I quickly unlatched my hooks and they came flying back into my gear.
"Y/N!" Mikasa called out for me. I quickly turn around to see her bringing a horse towards me.
"Thanks." I reply, grabbing the reins of the horse and quickly mounting it.
