Old Memories | Part 20

Time Skip : Trost District: Old Headquarters of the Survey Corps (also the place where Isabel, Farlan, Levi and I first started our new lives)

"The former Survey Corps Headquarters. As an old castle that was renovated to be our base, it definitely looks extravagant. But since it's this far away from the Walls and the river, it really wasn't something we needed. It was used back when we were first formed and our spirits were still high. I never imagined we'd be keeping you in that old place." Oluo's voice was the only sound heard beside the trotting of the horses as we trekked through the forest. I watched how Eren shifted uncomfortably on his saddle as Oluo ranted beside him. He seemed a bit uncomfortable and turned to look back towards the rest of the squad, however, was only met with Levi's piercing eyes. Frightened, Eren quickly turned back around.

A small frown fell on my lips as I saw this and I slightly pulled on my reins of my horse and brought it closer to Levi's. As he heard the sounds of my horse begin moving closer to his, he turned to look at me.

"Stop being so mean to him, can't you see you're scaring him." I whispered, trying to keep the conversation between the two of us. I heard Levi's famous "tch" before he turned his gaze back toward the front.

"Fine." Levi reluctantly responded and a small smile raised on my lips as I pulled my horse away.

"Don't get ahead of yourself recruit." Oluo spoke, resuming his ranting again. I tilted my head a bit, leaning over to the left so I could see past Petra's head. Poor Eren, maybe we should've put him some place else.

"Excuse me?" Eren wearily asked, tilting away from Oluo who was leaning over towards Eren from his horse.

"You may be a Titan or whatever, but a pissy brat like you under Levi-heichou's watch--" Oluo couldn't finish his sentence as his horse accidentally slipped on a rock and let out a small pained neigh before I saw blood spew from Oluo's mouth as he harshly bit down on his tongue. Eren seemed surprised as he backed away a bit and stood frozen not knowing what to do.

"Good grief..." I whisper under my breath before I let out a small disappointed sigh. I pulled my horse aside and rode up towards the front of the group where the two were. As I rode up towards Oluo and grabbed a small handkerchief from my pocket before handing it to him. He gratefully accepted and I then looked up at Eren who was still a bit shocked, "Don't worry, it happens often. You'll grow use to it." I reassured and he nodded before turning his gaze back towards the base.

I then moved back towards the back of the formation again and we slowly made our way towards the base.

"This is what you get for yapping away on horseback." Petra complained as she helped Oluo deal with his injury. I watched from afar as I stood waiting for our next instructions.

"First impressions are crucial. That recruit was scared stiff." Oluo replied stoically. I drew my attention away from their usual conversations on Petra complaining about Oluo's quirks residing imitating Levi and Oluo spouting out excess nonsense. I looked around the base and spotted Eren tending to his horse a few meters away from Petra and Oluo, I curiously made my way over to him.

"Heichou! Hello." Eren formally greeted as he heard me approach him from the side. I furrowed my brows a bit as I heard him the word "heichou" slip out of his mouth.

"No need to call me that, that chibi over there is your captain. Just call my Y/N." I replied, raising my hand to pet the horse. It seemed to enjoy it as it moved it's hands along with my touch.

"Chibi? You don't happen to mean Levi-heichou do you?" Eren wearily asked and I could hear the sudden shift in his tone as soon as Levi's name left his mouth. I let my arm fall from the horse and back to my side as I also drew my gaze towards Eren.
