CHAPTER 34 (NEAR MISS)

JENNIE'S POV

Lisa was still acting strangely after what had happened, as if she had suddenly lost her energy for everything. I frequently hear her sobbing in the middle of the night, and she can't focus on her work. I told Dad what had happened, and he understood. He chose not to let Lisa go to work first so that she could rest and also she wouldn't see Kai for a while, because there will definitely be trouble again when the two of them meet.

This is why I didn’t immediately tell Lisa about Aster, I didn’t want to surprise her because I knew it would be hard for her to accept what had happened. Until now I still have no idea who told her about that, I asked Jisoo unnie if she mentioned anything to Lisa but she said no. When I asked Lisa, she also didn't know who texted her because it was an unknown number.

Every day, I try to divert Lisa's attention away from the current situation. I took her to a park today where we could have a picnic, and I set up a carpet on the lawn with the food.

"Did you prepare all of this?" She asked me as she sat down on the grass.

"Yes, did you like it?" I also asked.

"Yeah, I love it. I just don’t expect this" She replied.

"We also need to unwind, we are constantly busy and have little time for each other" I replied and took a seat next to her.

"We should just have a picnic with Baby Aster so he can be with us" I took her hand in mine.

"Love, don't worry about Baby Aster. I'm sure he's okay right now, and I'm certain he won't be happy if he sees you like this" She lowered her head and feigned a grin.

"He must be here, with us" I hugged her and leaned her head on my chest.

"He's always here, watching us" We were silent for a moment as she watched the boy playing in the park. Her eyes were filled with grief and longing.

Let's eat. I told her. "Try this, I made that" I handed her the Chicken Salad Sandwich.

As she ate the sandwich, she nodded slowly. "It's delicious, you should make it again" She remarked this while taking another mouthful of her sandwich.

"Really? Okay, next time I'll do it again" I respond to her.

"We have a lot of food, you must have spent a lot of time preparing it" I laughed because of what she said.

"Yes, I got up early to prepare everything" I respond and take a sandwich with me.

We stayed in the park for a few more hours, and she almost finished all of the food we had. I was glad to see her smile again while talking to me. She told me about all the lovely spots in Thailand that she knew of, as if I had expressed an interest in visiting.

"Next time I will take you to Thailand" She said and handed me the Pineapple Juice.

"Really? When?" I asked excitedly.

"After my contract with your company and before I start my studio here I want to take a vacation there first" I smiled at what she said but it also vanished when I remembered her Mom.

"How about your Mom, is it okay with her?" I asked then she held my hand.

"Don't worry, I will explain everything to her"

I smiled. "I hope all goes well"

"Everything will be fine" She replied.

The two of us didn't end our day there, I took her to the mall because I wanted to buy a new bag and maybe we should go to the grocery store as well. As we were walking I saw a familiar man, at first I did not recognize him but when he approached us, Lisa and I both smiled.

"What's up! Long time no see" Bambam greeted Lisa warmly.

"Hey Bam, you've changed a lot huh, do you know how to comb now?" Lisa asked him jokingly and Bambam and I laughed.

"Am I handsome now for you?" Bambam asked and placed his hand on his chin.

Lisa shook her head. "You still have no chance in me"

Bambam burst out laughing. "I'm married, Lisa?" He showed us his ring. "How about you, have you two gotten back together?" He pointed the two of us.

Lisa nodded and it looks like they'll be talking for a long time so I said goodbye to go to the comfort room first.

LISA'S POV

I noticed that a few minutes have passed since Jennie left, she said earlier that she's go to the restoom but until now she still hasn’t been able to come back. I texted her that Bambam and I were here at a restaurant inside the mall for her to go straight here, but it looks like she hasn't read my message yet because she didn't even reply.

I tapped Bambam's shoulder. "I think I need to follow Jennie so we can eat"

Bambam looked at his watch. "It's been 20 minutes but she's not coming back yet, maybe the queue at rest room is too long" He replied.

I nodded. "I'll look for her, you can order now if you want to"

"No, It's alright. I'll just wait for you" He said then I left the restaurant.

I'm not too worried because she has two body guards with her but why is she taking so long? I went to the comfort room to see if she was there but everyone was out of the cubicle and I still couldn't see her. I've been to all the comfort rooms here in the mall but she's not there. I tried to call her but she did not answer.

I was going to go back to the restaurant because she might already be there but I met her two body guards.

"Where is Jennie?" My forehead furrowed as I asked them.

"We have been looking for her for a while, we thought she was with you" Alex answered, one of her body guards.

"Why did you let her get away from you?" I enragedly inquired.

"Ms. Manoban, we also used the restroom"

"Both of you? Isn't it possible for one of you to use the restroom first?" I just shook my head and dialed Jennie's number again.

"Sorry, Ms. Manoban. We assumed she was still waiting because the line was long" They lowered their heads.

"Where did you look for her?" I inquired of them.

"We went around the whole mall, Ms. Manoban"

I was getting irritated, so I tried calling her number numerous times but she didn't pick up.

"Look for her again, and when you find her, let's meet in the parking lot" We parted ways once I gave them my command.

Jennie, where have you been?

I proceeded to the information desk to page her name and waited a few minutes, but Jennie did not appear.

"Ma'am, it's possible that the person who was with you has already left" I was told by a member of the staff.

I gave a nod. "I'll look at her outside, but if she comes here, please call my number" I gave her my calling card.

Before leaving the mall, I inquired with the security guard. "Sir, Did you see this woman come out?" I showed Jennie's picture on my phone.

He paused for a moment. "I think she had come this way before, looking towards the parking lot" He responded.

"Thank you sir" I bowed to him and walked out of the mall.

I looked around the parking lot just in case I saw her. I took a few more steps around the parking lot till I saw her on the opposite side.

"Je —..." I was about to call her when I heard a loud car horn. I had no idea what happened next, all I knew was that she was on top of me and I'm hugging her now as we lay on the floor.

A car almost hit her.

- That was the day I thought I would lose you.
