Crude weapons with a single function, the Autons were the troops of the Nestene Consciousness. The Autons look like life-sized plastic dummies, and were often disguised as shop-window mannequins. The Nestenes could channel their awareness and intelligence into suitable vessels, and plastic was an ideal host. A small portion of Nestene Consciousness animated each Auton.
More advanced Autons could be made to resemble and imitate real-life people, like Mickey Smith.
