Whhhaaattt? An update two days later? Who am I? I guess I got a spark of motivation with Christmas break around the corner. I don't have much to say this time. The chapter is a bit short, but I hope you guys enjoy :)!
((Alex's POV))
Sky and I walked together, the school looming ahead of us as others were making their way towards the gym entrance. Her fingers were interlocked with mine, and I liked the feel of her long-painted orange nails. Her cheerleading uniform still made my heart do flips inside my chest.
"Lani texted and said they're inside toward the middle on the home team side," she said. "The game starts in 10 minutes."
"Did they save me a spot?" I asked.
"Duh," she said, smiling a little. "They know we're coming."
"Right," I managed. "Sorry."
She squeezed my hand a little as we made it inside the building. Students were everywhere in the lobby. The snack stand line was full, and the ticket line was even longer.
"Hey, is everything okay?" she asked me. "You've been..."
"Been what?" I frowned.
"You just seem more stressed out is all," she said. One thing about Sky is that she never backed down from speaking the truth.
"I'm alright," I said. "I guess school is just getting a little overwhelming is all."
"Yeah," Sky said a bit awkwardly.
"Meg wasn't happy when I stepped away from the academic team, but I honestly wanted to do more art stuff. We're trying to get the art club back together," I said.
"I love that," she said, squeezing my hand again like she always does for comfort.
Soon we showed the lady handling the ticket booth our student IDs so we could get in for free and were heading inside the gym. Sky kissed my cheek before racing off to join the cheerleaders, since she was already late. Meg was easy to spot as she was waving to me like a mad woman. Next to her was Carina, Henry, and Lani. Lani was looking down at her phone as Henry joined in Meg's waving.
"Hey guys," I smiled as I got over to them.
"A seat right here for ya," Meg grinned. "The game starts, like, in a minute. Cutting it close with time."
"Walking took longer than expected," I said.
"Uh-huh. Walking is what you two were doing," Henry snickered. "Sureeee."
I glanced down to see Sky blushing a little while looking flustered, probably apologizing to the other cheerleaders for being late. Before I even had time to process what just happened, the game was starting. The boys came out onto the gym floor as our side went wild with cheers. We were playing Grimere High School. One of the toughest teams in the region. If the team won this, they had a guaranteed spot for the state championship.
"COME ON SAM!!!" Meg yelled loudly with the cheering crowd.
"YOU GOT THIS SEAN!" Carina added.
I sat and watched in silence. Sam to me stole the court away compared to everyone else. He looked focused, his dark brown hair needing a small ponytail in the back since it was getting long. Not as long as mine, which was a curly disaster that hit below my shoulders now, but the length looked good on him.
The game seemed to be going by quickly. We were losing by a lot more than we were comfortable with. I felt bad for Sam. He was sweating buckets along with the other guys on our team. They really were trying their best.
