Sooo this isn't an update to the AU fanfic. I'm sorry! I sometimes write short stories here, and this was an idea that I had. I hope you all still enjoy this update! This story did make me cry in the end, I'm not going to lie. I've been wanting to write this for some time, and I could never figure out how I wanted to end a story like this. I wrote two different endings for it, and this is the one I'm proud of. While it isn't completely perfect, I wanted others to read this. Sooooo enjoy some Claire and Liam heartbreak!
Before everything ended for him, he remembered everything. From when he first met her to now, looking up at the sky dusted with war, the pain slowly disappearing from his abdomen every second.
The sky was so blue. So beautiful. He would never see it like this again.
"Liam!"
He couldn't respond. He knew his mouth would never open again in this world. He couldn't move on his own. Couldn't breathe. When his body was moved over, he did see the look of horror on Alex Stowe's face. He wondered what he looked like, life drained from him. He wondered if he would forever be stuck in this place of purgatory, never to see any kind of life after. He almost wanted to beg the young mage to stay, but Alex quickly raced off. Declaring him dead immediately.
For he was dead. He knew that. He so badly wanted to roll over to see if she was okay. The woman he owed so much to after destroying her life.
The sky above slowly began to fade, and he wanted to beg the ultimate universe to not take him yet. He wanted to look at her one more time, even if she was on the ground like he was. To know that he at least saved her from this same fate.As everything faded to white, he expected only darkness. Instead, he was somewhere else.
Quill. There was no mistaking it.
"Come on!" A girl ahead of him called, her voice squeaky.
The girl had blonde hair and a gray dress. Her legs were covered in old scabs, her whole spirit being adventurous. Was this unknown girl leading him to the afterlife? She was going too fast for his liking. She was wearing shoes that would make her trip over the old ground.
"Not so fast! I can't keep up!" He said.
His voice didn't sound deep at all. He sounded just as old as she was, which was probably around seven years old. He only just noticed he was around her height too. Instead of questioning further, he continued to follow her. The girl led him to a spot away from all the other children coming home from school. A spot that had them hidden in a dark alleyway, between the dusty and same houses of Quill. When she turned around, all the air escaped his lungs.
Claire.
"You'd think you could keep up since you're taller," she teased.
"What are we doing here?" He asked. "I have to get home."
He realized he had no control over his tongue or words. While he was seeing everything through his point of view, he instantly knew what this was.
A memory. His best memories.
"I want to show you something, but you have to promise not to tell anyone else. Promise it!" She demanded.
"Ok I promise," he said.
"Pinkie promise," she said, holding out her pinkie for him to wrap his own around. "Promise to always be on my side."
He wrapped his pinkie around hers, seeing how both their hands had the dirt and dust of Quill that never seemed to leave. He looked into her eyes, and he wondered what he looked like through her eyes. To him, she looked like everything that was good about the world.
