((Alex's POV))

I sighed as I walked in the door, taking my red backpack off of my shoulders. Half throwing my stuff in the corner where me and Aaron's backpacks went, I tried to find my mom.

"Mom?"

"In here sweetie!"

I smiled as I heard her voice in the kitchen. Quickly going to her, I saw that she was sitting with both of my sisters. Thisbe and Fifer looked tired as they were asleep in their little carriers.

"Hey Mom," I smiled as I grabbed some fruit snacks from the pantry for snack.

"Hi honey. How was school?"

"Fine. I have a crap ton of homework though. I have to finish my art project due tomorrow. I'm halfway done with it," I winced as I admitted my procrastination.

"Then hop to it. Eat those fruit snacks quickly and get to it," she chuckled as she stood up. "I have to put these two little cuties in bed."

Since my mother was on maternity leave from her job and had been for a bit, the family slowly started to notice. We had less money to spend on fun things. We also were having less groceries in the house. Those were the last fruit snacks I took. We probably wouldn't have snacks like that for awhile due to our financial situation. Thankfully my mother was still getting paid, but all that money was really going towards baby stuff.

"Ok mom," I managed with a little smile. "I'll be in my room."

I went back to the door and grabbed my backpack. Since I got a ride home from Sean and Meg, I arrived home before Aaron. I hoped for at least some quietness for a bit before he arrived.

Going up the stairs quickly, I opened the door at the end of the hall that was me and Aaron's room now. I had no time to waste as I sat down at my desk, pulled my art piece out with my pencils, and got to finishing the piece with using my reference photo to go off of.

When Aaron opened the door to our bedroom, I finally glanced at the time. It was 5:23 p.m. I had been drawing for around 2 hours when he came in.

"Why are you home so late?" I asked as I turned in my desk chair to look at him.

"I was busy," he grumbled as he flopped into his bed.

"Sureee with what?" I rolled my eyes as I sharpened my red colored pencil. "I'm sure whatever you were busy with was super duper important."

"I was with people..." he grumbled as he kicked his black converse off his feet. "I told you this."

"Wait, people? You have friends besides my friends and Kaylee?" I gasped but then smirked at my teasing.

"Shut it. Yes, I guess I do... I mean.. I just hung out with the baseball team for a bit," Aaron admitted.

"Baseball? You're going to join the baseball team?" I smiled as I wheeled my chair closer to him. "That's great!"

Aaron just rolled his eyes and grabbed a pencil from his bag. From the looks of it he was doing math homework. Aaron was doing way better in school now, even better than me. I never realized how smart he was in math and science until recently.

"I also want to join the robotics team actually," Aaron shrugged as he began to solve a problem for X. "I want to build stuff."

"That's... That's amazing," I smiled as I actually felt emotional. Was I tearing up? "I'm glad you're opening up to people."

"Ugh, don't get all emotional on me," he sighed as he picked up his calculator to finish the problem. "You're annoying me. I have homework."

"Alright Mr.MathPants," I snorted as I wheeled back over to my desk. "I have art homework to do anyways. I'll stop annoying you now."
