((Sky's POV))

"Alex has been off lately," I said, sitting on the top of my house's porch steps.

"How so?" Meg asked, painting my nails.

"He keeps on forgetting a lot of stuff surrounding us," I said, watching as she painted my thumb nail a bright orange. "I made sure to tell him twice about how I had movie tickets for us this Saturday. Then Sam tells me that him and Al planned to hang out and have a sleepover over the weekend."

"Alex canceled the sleepover to be with you, right?" Meg questioned.

"Of course," I said. "But I told him twice Meg. TWICE. Once in person, once over text. He didn't even bother to go back in our text messages."

Megan frowned as she finished both of my hands. I started to blow on them as she opened a purple polish for herself.

"I mean, maybe he has a lot on his mind. I would talk to him about it," she said.

"Meg, I'm kind of worried. Should I be?"

"About what?"

"About.... Well," I started to say but stopped. I wasn't sure how to word this correctly. "Samheed and Lani broke up. Samheed's single. We know he used to like Alex."

"Sky, no," Meg said, stopping me. My heart stopped seeing her look mad at me. "You need to have faith in Samheed. I mean, he's your friend and all our friends. And you need to trust Alex. He's literally your boyfriend, who you need to have full trust in as his partner. They wouldn't do that."

"But Meg, it's a real possibility," I said. "Sam's bi. There's a past already there."

"Samheed's still in love with Lani last time I checked," Meg said. "I think they're going to get back together."

"I don't know," I said. "I can't help but be worried about all of this."

Meg sighed, shaking her head. She closed the polish before even painting a single finger. She stood up, grabbing her orange Kanken backpack. I watched, stunned, as she walked down the porch steps to stand on the sidewalk leading to my house.

"Girl, I love you. I really do. But I don't want to be the main person you go to with your relationship problems," Meg said. "I can't handle it personally. I'm setting this boundary, alright?"

I bit my bottom lip, feeling more lost than ever. Here was the one friend I thought I could talk to about this. I couldn't talk to Lani about this. I couldn't talk to any of the guys.

"I'm sorry," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Meg sighed, running her fingers though her curly red hair.

"It's fine. But I gave you my advice at the beginning. Take it or don't."

I watched, my vision blurring slightly as she walked up the street. My mom was supposed to give her a ride home. Obviously not now. I pulled my knees up, looking at my still drying nails. One of them got smudged. The first tear hit my knee as I buried my face in them.

Why did I feel all alone again?

It had been a week since the boys' basketball team lost the big game. And the school still felt it. Sean was still mute at school to everyone except Carina, giving everyone just small, forced smiles as hellos. Ms. Morning was really pushing the talent show, which was in two weeks from today. I still didn't have an act like all my friends.
