I Missed Her Like Crazy

Hey guys! It's me Em, and I kinda have things to say. First school for me is off on May 25th so I will have more time to write! Plus I am going to start putting random short stories in here that aren't related to the AU as well because I can. I really hope you guys enjoy this short story ^_^. It takes place as soon as Simber, Carnia, and an injured Sean head back to Artime. BYYEEE!

Alex stood at the bow of the ship, staring out at the sun rising. The crew was heading back to Artime since they saved Sky's mother.

He frowned as he looked ahead. Simber was gone, leaving him with no one to talk to. Sean was probably almost back now. He hoped he was alright.

"Can't sleep huh?"

Alex turned to find Samheed standing there, smirking as he walked up to him.

"Jeez, it's only me. You looked like you've seen a ghost or something."

"Sorry Sam, I didn't expect you to be up here."

"Well, I can't sleep. The ship is rocking too much for me." He said as he rested his forearms on the railing.
"This is a beautiful sunrise though."

"Yeah... I do agree with you on that one," Alex chuckled a bit.

The two were silent for a bit, just staring out ahead. Samheed sighed,  putting his head down on the railing with his dark hair going in his face.

"I'm worried about Sean," he simply said.

"And Simber," Alex added. "I hope they made it back safely."

"Carnia must be really worried.. I would be too if I was on the back of Simber with a wounded friend below...It's obvious she likes Sean though," Samheed said as he lifted his head back up. He was smiling a little.
"Those two really need to get together."

"But what about Carnias... You know."

"I'm pretty sure he would want her to move on, don't you think?"

Alex nodded and stayed silent as he stared out at the sun again.

Samheed glanced at his friend at points. The sunrise light shined on Alex's face and hair, making him look different to him. Honestly, Alex had changed a lot to him. Not just by being a new leader, but he had grown a few inches since he saved Lani and him from Warbler. Sam was still taller, but Alex was catching up.

"You okay Sam? You're kind of staring at me," Alex asked nervously.

"Oh, um, yeah... Sorry... It's just that I've been thinking."

"What about?" He asked

Samheed looked out at the golden sea again, the sun now fully visible beyond the horizon.

"You are really confusing, you know that Alex?"

"Huh? How so?"

Samheed just laughed slightly and then frowned a bit. Alex frowned as well when he saw his friend unhappy.

"You're confusing people...You know what I'm talking about."

"No I don't... Can I get some closure?"

Samheed was starting to get angry, but he bit his tongue to hold back his insults.

"On which girl you pick.. That's what I'm talking about," Sam stared into Alex's brown eyes intensely. "So who is it? Lani or Sky?" He snapped slightly.

Alex looked surprised, but his shock turned into a frown. He found himself looking out at the water just like Samheed had.

"Well, I used to not know. I was confused for a while. I think I've finally decided though."

"Really? And who might that lucky girl be?" Samheed said with a small forced laugh

"I think I like Sky on a deeper level. I mean, Lani and I were young at a point and-"

"I get it... I get it," Sam simply said.

Alex looked back at his friend to see that he was smiling at the ocean water. He smiled back and hit his friends shoulder playfully.

"You were hoping I would say that, weren't you? Don't lie."

Sam's cheeks turned a shade of pink, the color being highlighted by the rising sun. Alex laughed even harder.

"Quiet down Stowe! People are sleeping!" Samheed hissed.

"You like Lani don't you? That's cute!" Alex started to do a sing song. "Sam and Lani sitting in a tree! K- I-S-S-I-N-G!"

Sam slapped his friend hard in the shoulder, making Alex shut up.

"I could say the same to you and Sky you know!" He snapped.

That got Alex to shut up completely. The two were silent as they stared out at the water again. It was Alex who spoke next when he said,

"Was it Warbler that got you to like her? To realize that you had feelings for her?"

Sam sighed as he looked behind him to see if anyone was secretly watching or listening. When the coast was clear he turned back to Alex.

"Mostly... I kind of liked her before, but you kind of held me back. That's sort of  the reason I really didn't like you for a while... But after we got to Warbler and got taken into that dark room.. I-I-"

"You what?"

"I was terrified. Yeah, scared... I said it," Sam sighed. "But I had her with me. She was there for me, and I was there for her. Whenever she held my hand, I knew that I was safe as long as she was with me." Sam's voice became a little shaky when he said,
"But when I could finally see her... She looked beautiful. Even if I couldn't see her that much in the dark. And when I got to see her again at the language meets, I told her I missed her like crazy.. I'm surprised that didn't give my feelings away."

Alex smiled as he listened. Once Sam was done, he frowned cause his friend looked like he was about to cry.

"You okay?"  Alex asked.

"Yeah... I'm fine."

"You sure?"

"If you ask one more time Stowe, I'll punch you for real," he laughed as a tear slid down his cheek.

Alex saw this tear and put his arm around his friend, hugging him tightly.

"I'm sorry I brought up a sensitive topic. It must have been hard."

"You have no idea," Sam laughed as another tear slid down his face. He quickly wiped it away though.

Alex pulled his arm away from him.

"You need time alone?" He asked.

"I'm actually going to go back to bed if you'll let me," Sam yawned.

"Of course."

Samheed walked across the deck away from Alex, but looked back as soon as he got to the door to the lower deck.

"Don't feel bad okay? That needed to be said. I was holding that in forever," Sam said to Alex.

"Yeah... Okay."

Sam then disappeared to below deck, leaving Alex feeling in disbelief. He didn't know he felt that way towards Lani.

It really was love.
