Defying the odds was taking off the ground , well it was only the beginning. Seeing all the building materials outside and the workers busy made it seem real . The foundation was built .
I could already picture the end product , I wanted it to be marbled or tiled . One would say Thompson was rubbing off on me . Wearing a mask because the dust is too much and I didn't want to risk my pregnancy. I watched from a safe distance as the construction workers continued to lay brick after brick . This was happening .
I remembered I'd soon need to begin with the interviews for the employees and searching for street kids near Johannesburg. I still had a long way to go but for some reason I was excited for that part , I mean we're doing it for them after all , the kids .
I brushed my belly and hummed to my unborn daughters while I continued to imagine my dream coming true .
I didn't hear the footsteps of someone approaching me because of the loud welding machines . Even though this yard was huge as a hospital , you still couldn't hear anything because the machines were louder .
"Looks like everything is working according to your plan after all." the voice I never thought I'd hear for a very long time said .
I remember the last time we spoke , we exchanged a lot of unpleasant words but he did most of the exchanging and hearing his voice takes me back to that day . I remember when I thought he was the sweetest man alive and that he was a considerate man and now my opinion about him and changed to be the opposite of everything I once thought of him.
I set my eyes on him and there he really is in front of me. He had lots of guts setting his foot here . Today he is wearing black slacks . His hair is longer because he has it in a back ponytail. Everything I once found attractive about him now seems ordinary . His once upon a time sweet attractive smile that used to have me now does nothing to me . How quickly times have changed .
I manage to hold my poker face and stoic facial expression . I guess it was true what they say . When you're always with someone you end up adopting his or her behavioural traits .
He's still waiting for my response but I'm not planning on uttering a single word to him . He doesn t deserve it . He holds his smile in place while my facial expression gives away absolutely nothing. I continue to stare at him until , "Okay I deserve that ." and I couldn't hold the scoff that escaped me .
" Look I'm sorry I shouldn't have said all of those things I said to you , that was not me and I don't know what came to me." he says.
"Jealousy and envy came to you and you took it out on me ."
I saw his smile falter . He took a closer towards me but I held out my hand to stop him . I remove the face mask that I was wearing.
"What are you doing here Mark ?" after all this was not any of his business anymore .
He lets out a sigh , "I came to speak to you . I went to the hospital and I found out you no longer worked there and one of the workers mentioned you'd be here ."
Rolling my eyes at whoever mentioned it .
"What do you want from me ?"This time I didn't hide the malice in my voice .
