Harley

Maybe I would have understood why he did what he did if he gave me his reasons . We were getting over to two months , that's still a honeymoon phase in most relationships , most relationships that is . We had encountered so many problems like we've been together for a long time . What good is a relationship if he doesn't tell me things or speak to me ? .

"Your cuppaccino's good love?" he asked . I didn't realise I was in my head . "Yes , sorry ." We drove into the orphanage's driveway . " You ready for this , to be a mother that is ?" He tried to lighten up the mood - I was a nerve wreck but I'm ecstatic too , I needed to see how homes operated . " Don't !" I punched his shoulder playfully .

" Let's go then ." He opened his door , the same time , I did . I let out a breath as I began walking towards the people who were supposed to be welcoming us . " Welcome to House of Grace Home " the elderly woman whose name was Matilda ; we spoke a few times over the phone , discussing my visit and learning how to run a home . " Thank you for having us , I'm Harley MacKesie ." I introduced myself with a smile . "Welcome Mr and Mrs MacKesie, thank you so much for gracing us with your presence." She said , her face radiating how much she really appreciated our visit . With a laugh , I correct her . " Oh , no , we're not together , this is Mark Vance - the man responsible for making all this possible ." I further explained , her eyebrows creased before her eyes widening in realisation . " She won't go out with me ." Mark feigned a sad voice , placing a hand over his heart . I pushed him causing the rest of the welcoming committee to laugh .

"Shall we go inside , but first I want to introduce you to a few of our staff members." She said , a petite woman stepped forward , taking a bow in front of us . " This is Pesche Obes , she's our head chef ." I took in the woman's facial features . She had the most smoothest , tanned beautiful brown skill . She had prominent hard cheekbones . She was gorgeous and her flawless skin made her stand out . " Harley MacKesie , it's such an honour to be here ." I extended my hand for a handshake , she took my hand . " Chef Pesche , it's a pleasure to meet you , will you be staying for lunch ?" She asked in a deep bold voice filled a strong Nigerian accent . I stood before her , unable to speak . I was mesmerized by her beauty , Mark cleared his throat , bringing me back to reality before answering for me or rather us , " Of course " he said offering his hand to her , " Mark Vance " , Pesche took his hand and smiled at him , nodding . He kissed the top of her hand before letting her hand go .

" Right , and this is Lincoln Oliphant , our head of security ." Matilda introduced us to a man who remain stood in his position . He was the serious type of man , he simply nodded at us , not making eye contact . " He's reserved " Matilda explained and flashed us an apologetic smile . " Over here is , Gertrude Mc'Miller ," an overly ecstatic chubby short lady with braids stepped forward , giving me a hug . " I'm the second house mother , there are about 200 more house mothers " she introduced herself , my mouth was hanging agap . The staff here was small . " All right , we can begin the tour ," Matilda said , leading us inside .

Matilda and her house were well prepared , the floors were spotless and shinning . We were greeted by various curious eyes as we walked past . My heart pounded in my chest at the amount of children who were left by their parents and placed in homes . The other staff members greeted us and returned to their work , so did chef Pesche , she left to prepare the lunch . I assumed she had help in the kitchen , she couldn't possibly cook for more than five hundred people .

We walked around the hallways and passages , a flood of toddlers ran past us in giggles . " No running " another house mother scolded as she ran behind them . We got to see how they operated , they divided the rooms into two , dorm rooms for both , the boys and girls . When I asked about school , Matilda took the liberty to explain to me how they put a group of children in the same school and the others in different schools . She explained how the funding money was used to cater for the needs of the children .
