Some things were going right, like Draken getting every day better as if nothing had happened, Pah-chin was getting used to being at the reformatory and eventually knew what happened with Peyan having to talk to him, and the fifth division made sure the group of traitors got what they deserved.
What was troubling was Baji's behavior with the others, even with Y/n he was being distant, always with excuses to not hang out with her. Knowing him, she preferred to give him his space to sort out whatever issue he had.
Just when they finally were going to get together, or so she thought, he became cold.
"Have you talked to him?"
She let out a long breath while braiding Draken's hair. "No, he seems to be busy all time. Chifuyu doesn't know anything and is worried as well."
Mikey was laying on his carpet looking annoyed by the conversation and clicked his tongue loudly rolling giving them his back.
"Do you know anything, Mikey?"
After a few seconds, he sat still not facing them. "He came and we argued. It's about Kazutora."
The last one mentioned was going to be released from the juvenile soon, Baji had come to persuade Mikey to forgive him. Things had heated up between them to the point the leader banned the other from the meetings.
"I'll talk to him."
"It's not worth it, leave it at that."
"No, Mikey! He can't come and tell you what to do." She was furious and took her stuff to leave.
"Poor Baji, he's going to meet hell before time." Draken pitied him watching how outraged the girl had fled.
When she arrived at Baji's house, his mother welcomed her. The woman invited her favorite troublesome to dinner. Y/n helped her prepare the food while the boy returned home.
"What are you doing here?" Making his way to the kitchen after arriving, he was surprised to see her there so happily bonding with his mother.
"Hey, Kei!" She faked to be glad to see him, burying the irk for later. "I was around and came to see how you were doing."
During the dinner, the talk was enjoyable and both teens succeeded in making the woman think everything was going alright. They even left the apartment laughing along with his mother.
When they closed the door, the glee atmosphere died, and both looked at each other intently before walking down the stairs and getting to a near park.
"So?"
"So?! What the hell is wrong with you these days, Baji? You've been ignoring your friends. Suddenly you never want to talk or hang out without giving me an explanation. I thought we were doing great. And then, you went to Mikey, asking him to forgive his brother's killer?!" Y/n couldn't hold the anger anymore, screaming at him trying not to cry.
"I thought you understood." He was noticeably pissed when she called Kazutora a killer. "He didn't want to..."
"That cute little story about how all he wanted to do was make Mikey happy. It didn't turn out that way, did it? You can't just go and tell others how you feel. Shinichiro's death was hard on him and affected us all. Baji, I was there for you, don't make me regret it." Her tears were slipping out without consent blocking her vision, needing to wipe them with her arm.
The silence grew between the teens. She looked away, sitting in a swing trying to compose herself, feeling the anger fade slowly and replaced with embarrassment for crying.
The boy was looking at the sky, leaning on the slide, deep in his thoughts.
"It'll be better if we..." His heart was aching since she used his last name instead of his nickname, letting him acknowledge how mad she was at him. Baji didn't want to tell her to get away from him, but staying with him would become more upsetting and dangerous for anyone close to him.
