Back on the floor, Y/n looked into her father's eyes. She hesitated for a long time, biting her lip and playing with her fingers. "I'm scared. What if everything gets worse?"

"But what if everything turns better?" Baji approached and took her hand, lacing their fingers and making light circle motions with his thumb to ease her.

"Can we stop lying to her?" Izana sighed, crossing arms and rolling his eyes. "We all know things eventually will get... interesting."

The young man's words made Y/n crisp her eyes, and a shiver of awareness traveled through her body.

He didn't seem to notice and kept nonchalantly speaking. "Personally, I would love to be there and see how things will burn!"

A slender shadow appeared behind him, slapping his head to make him bite his tongue. "You never shut up, Izana."

Slowly, it took form. The playful smile and gentle eyes were just as Y/n remembered. Shinichiro took his young brother by the neck, making him struggle and preventing him from messing things up with his careless mouth.

"Thanks, God." Baji let out exasperated.

"Angel, you know better how reckless this boy can be, don't listen to him. Life can be surprising, but that's how it is. Besides, a little bird told me you have a wonderful future."

"Emma," Y/n couldn't resist the tears down her cheeks, having to take a few steps away from the men around her. "I understand it now. All you've been trying is to convince me to get back willingly. Why can't I stay?"

"You said it before, you don't belong here." The bleach-haired boy had managed to set apart Shin's arm and looked straight at her, at how her shattered heart broke even more. "I sound like a moron, but you don't deserve to hear more lies."

"Princess, remember what I once told you. Owls can address fear assertively."

"May I proceed?" The doctor asked softly, knowing it was a heavy moment.

The woman beside the hospital bed with her daughter's body held the tears bravely and nodded. Once the man started turning off the meds machines, she couldn't take it any longer. Her legs gave up, burying her crying face into the covers.

The sound of sorrow reached the people in the waiting room who had gathered after knowing the sad decision Y/n's mother had taken.

After Emma's memorial, the group of people outside couldn't keep handling the weight of tragedy over them.

There was Mikey, sitting afar from the rest, bent over his knees, holding Baji's charm, and it seemed he was praying. A couple of seats away was Draken, with clenched fists, staring at the blank wall, looking like a zombie after several sleepless nights.

Mitsuya tried to keep calm despite the tears rolling down his cheeks. Yuzuha snapped out of her doze, hearing the mother's cries.

A gloomy blond boy was on a corner, trying to deny the moment and repeating to himself, "This isn't real."

The crybaby reproached himself, looking around the room.

"There are things nobody can't change." Hina composed her voice, fighting the urge to weep, but failed after her boyfriend hugged her, looking for comfort.

Inside the room, the last machine turned on was the one with Y/n's vitals, letting the doctor know what the passing hour would be.

Beep after beep, each one taking longer to ring.

When the man in a white coat thought it would be the last heartbeat, another one would chime, lasting longer than he expected. The beats slowly took a low but stable rhythm. He got puzzled and approached the girl, checking her pupils with the little lamp in his pocket. They were still reacting to the light. He checked a few other reflexes and let out a sigh of relief, even a chuckle.
