The girl walked behind the distrusting boy, watching back at the mischievous Koko and the unflinching Inupi, his new comrades. "Are you sure about them?"
Y/n turned her sight in the same direction and giggled. "Those two are the less of your preoccupations, Matsuno."
"Did I do something wrong?" He was taken aback hearing his surname and halted his pace, feeling his hands starting to sweat.
"How do you expect to ask me out when you sometimes forget to call me by my name?" Y/n laughed cutely. Turning around when she reached the motorcycle, the girl put her weight on it. "It's written all over your face, Fuyu."
Even in the dark of the night, his pale face could be seen. "I- I..."
She calmly patted the spot next to her, inviting him to come closer. Their shoulders were touching when he nervously took his place. "My act was too intimidating, right? Heh. My dad always told me I'd never get a date if I was that tough. I guess he was right."
"NO, he wasn't! You were amazing!" He sensed the sudden shift in her voice and wanted to cheer her out, forgetting the embarrassment. "Here! I bought you this." Chifuyu stood before her, bringing out from his pocket a small item and placing it in her palms with a decisive face. "It might not be the biggest plushie, an entire closet from the most luxurious stores, or a big bouquet, but the moment I saw it, it reminded me of you."
The girl was so enthralled with the detail that she ignored everything around her. She stared at the key ring with the owl on it.
"You hate it, right? How could I be so stupid? I should have picked the cat one." The boy face-palmed himself, thinking the girl was silent because she hadn't liked it.
"Did you know that the Greeks believed that if they saw an owl in battle, it would mean the goddess of war was smiling upon them?" The speechless one at that moment was him, not understanding a thing. "Chifuyu, dummy, I love it. It's perfect."
"Oh, really?"
She nodded and giggled at him again at the uncertainty on his face. "Yep. Now, I would accept anything. What was that thing you wanted to ask me before?" The girl made him come closer by taking hold of his hand and pulling it to the point their breaths were colliding, and all they could see were their eyes.
The boy took his time to admire her shining orbs. He was diving into them and getting sway in the intensity of its deepness, dropping a bit his jaw to take her taste in. The previous anxiety faded away.
"You know which the answer will be." Her lips were so close, making it impossible not to give them a quick look. "Why are you so embarrassed? Aren't you dying to say it?" When she spoke, the taste of her breath reached him like a drug, intoxicating him.
He needed more and wanted to break the gap as he squinted his eyes. "Y/n, please..."
The lanterns of a car approached their place, taking out a few people in its way. The driver desperately honked before pulling over a few feet from the two teens, interrupting their sweet moment.
Blinding by the lights, the two retreated, covering their faces with a hand to get a better view of the car. "Get in!" The one at the steering wheel shouted before starting to honk again in his way of hurrying her.
"Geez! Fucking looney." She said in despair and disappointment. "Fuyu, next weekend, okay?!" Y/n had to yell to be heard above the noise. "I'LL TREASURE IT. THANK YOU!"
The disturbance stopped when the girl reached the front window, wrapping hard the edge and with an irked face at the driver. "What's your problem!?"
"His vice-captain? Really?" The face mask boy asked in a whisper, frowning.
