After getting ready and throwing on a tight black cocktail dress, I head out the front door of my empty house.
Topper and Sarah probably already there, I take the short cut through the figure eight houses to get to Kelce's.
I eventually see his house in the distance. His front door wide open, strobe lights flickering from the windows. The ground vibrating from the thudding music. His front yard already littered with empty, cans, bottles, cups and rubbish. People already passed out on the lawn, or spewing or couples eating each others face off. There's normal people just chatting, drinking and smoking, they smile at me as I walk past them and into the over crowded house alone.
Heat hits me in the face along with the smell of alcohol, aftershave and sweat. I know exactly where I want to be, the kitchen. I need a drink. I shove through the shoulder to shoulder crowd finally reaching an open space near the kitchen and being able to properly breathe.
"Toppers sister, right?" The unfamiliar male voice grabs my attention. I look up slightly to face a short guy with long jet black hair and brown eyes with a bright white smile.
"God am I famous in kookville?" I chuckle returning the friendly smile.
"Something like that." He chuckles. "Tom." He holds his hand out for me to shake.
I take him up on his offer. "Vanessa."
"Well it's nice to meet you Vanessa, can I get you a drink?" He gestures over to the kitchen island blanketed to the edges with all different kinds of liquors and beers.
"I mean yeah, I gue..."
"She's not interested." A familiar voice declares from behind me.
I feel a hand on my shoulder, my heart thudding harshly against my chest, I know immediately who it is.
"But she said yeah?" Tom dares question Rafe. He looks back over at me expecting me to say something.
"She changed her mind." Rafe snaps warningly.
Tom holds his hands up in surrender before walking off defeated.
"Rafe, what the hell!" I shove his hand off my shoulder with annoyance.
I turn around to face him as he glares down at me. I expectingly wait for an answer admiring every feature of his, just looking at him made my heart flip. He stays silent nervously wiping at his nose.
"He was being friendly." I claim defensively.
"He was going to spike you, Nessa." He talks down at me condescendingly as if I'm stupid. He turns and walks up to the alcohol filled island making a concoction of his own into two cups.
I storm over to stand beside him and watch what he's doing, our sudden argument not yet over.
"You don't know that!" I continue to argue.
"Believe me, I know him better than you do." He passes me a full cup of whatever he has just made. I trust Rafe. I take the drink with no hesitation, my fingers brushing past his as I do. Downing the clear liquid in seconds adding the empty cup to the collection on the floor. He passes me his drink he hadn't had chance to drink.
"Thanks." I look up at him through my lashes, my eyes meeting his blue ones. I can't help but reveal the soft smile escaping my lips and he can't help but reveal the same expression.
"Hey Rafe." A girl appears beside Rafe the sound of her voice causing us both to rapidly step away from each other. She snakes a hand around his arm looking at him flirtatiously. She has short brown hair with brown eyes and barely any clothes on. She doesn't care that I'm stood there, all she can see is Rafe.
She pulls him down to whisper in his ear. He nods at her before turning to me. "I won't be a second. Wait here, don't move, don't talk to any strangers." He warns me demandingly. The girl gives me the fakest smile full of spite before walking off clinging to Rafe's arm.
Watching Rafe walk off with her sends outpourings of jealousy through my entire body. Revenge is all I want for him making me feel this way. I wasn't going to listen to him, I was gonna go wondering off just to make a point when Sarah appears from the crowd. "V!" Sarah doesn't stop before grabbing my wrist and pulling me through the hectic crowds . "We're going to play a game!" She yells over the music before we reach a seating area in a separate room and people were already sat in the circle. I only recognise Kelce, Topper, Rafe and what appears to be Rafe's girlfriend. So this is where he had to rush off to so suddenly expecting me to wait for him.
I can't stop myself from glancing over at Rafe who isn't even looking in my direction. He is sat beside that same girl who approached him earlier but he doesn't seem too interested as he counts a wad of cash in his hands. When was he planning on coming back to me?
A few more people join before the game starts.
The half filled bottle of vodka sits perfectly in the middle of the circle.
"Does everyone know the rules?" A guy I don't know shouts out. "Spin the bottle. If you want to opt out you have to take a shot of vodka." He explains, I'm thankful he did because that last rule is new.
"V, you go first." Kelce points at me.
I shrug my shoulders carelessly before reaching over and spinning the bottle. It lands on Sarah.
"Nothing we haven't done before." Sarah grins before we both lean in and make out. All of the boys in the game sit with their mouths wide open whilst Rafe and Topper just roll their eyes. We laugh against each others lips before finally pulling apart.
"W-what? You've done that before?" Kelce asks not being able to hide his excitement.
"That's for us to know and you to imagine." Sarah winks at him before taking her turn to spin the bottle.
It lands on Topper as they make out in the middle of the circle. People tell them to get a room and that they've had enough when they finally pull away.
Other people have their go. Most of them kiss, some opt out with a shot.
The girl that is all over Rafe takes her turn. The bottle lands on Kelce but she completely ignores this and turns to smash her lips against Rafe. My heart sinks down to the pit of my stomach and I start to feel a painful lump in my throat. I can feel my heartbeat thudding in my ears drowning out all noise as I stare straight at them both with their lips interlocked.
