My eyes flutter open and I rub them until I realise where I am. I rapidly sit up scanning the room around me and remember last night. Falling asleep in Rafe's arms. Rafe isn't beside me. He's not in the room.
I hear the shower running in his bathroom. I glance over at the photo of the younger us and a warm feeling surges around my body.
I hear the shower stop. The door unlocks and Rafe walks out in nothing but a pair of boxers. I notice few water droplets clinging to his skin.
I don't even realise I haven't looked away since he walked out the bathroom until he says something.
"Pick your jaw up off the floor." He jokes with a smirk. I quickly look away embarrassed before grabbing my bag and heading into the steamed up bathroom, locking the door behind me.
Suddenly I hear a knock at Rafe's door, he walks over and opens it.
"What?"
"Country club today." I hear a very hungover Sarah groan.
"Fine."
"Have you seen Vanessa? I swear I saw her in this house last night but I was that drunk I can't remember."
"Why would I have seen Vanessa?" My full name sounding so foreign falling from his lips, he always calls me 'Nessa' or 'Ness'.
"I was just asking." Sarah raises her voice defensively.
"Well I haven't." His tone remaining the same. Blunt and monotonous.
"Did you have a girl over last night?"
"None of your business." He barks before slamming the door.
The same time I walk out of the bathroom fully dressed, fresh and ready.
"Yeah you're gonna have to sneak out without Sarah seeing you."
My mouth opens as wide as my eyes. "How the hell am I supposed to do that?!"
"I'll go distract her and text you when to sneak out." Rafe quickly exits the room calling after Sarah.

I somehow manage to leave the Cameron's household without being seen and go up the street to my house, letting myself in. Mom and Topper are already in the kitchen. Mom is sat on her phone whilst Top makes himself breakfast.
Mom lifts her eyes from her phone for a split second to see who just entered the kitchen. "Hi sweetie!" She greets me cheerily.
"Are you not hungover?" I ask sounding surprised whilst pouring myself a glass of fresh orange.
"Don't be silly, why would I be hungover?" She chuckles.
"Erm, the party you threw here last night?" I scan the kitchen for any sign of a typical party mess to prove my point but it looks spotless.
She scoffs. "That wasn't a party, honey, that was just a small get together. I only had a few people round."
I can't help but furrow my brows in confusion. "Are you kidding? There was like 50 people here last night. You had music blasting, and you were all drunk. Me and Rafe-"
Topper snaps his head up and I realise what just slipped out. "You and Rafe?" He immediately questions. "What about you and Rafe?" His eyes boaring into me.
"Nothing." I scoff. "He just walked me home and then mom dragged him in and wouldn't leave him alone." I explain casually.
"Oh yes I remember that!" Mom blurts out, me and my brother turn to look at her. "You was both at the door and then I brought you inside. Then Rafe was telling us how he walked you home and then you disappeared to get your bag and came back dragging poor Rafe back out the door telling us you're sleeping out." She recaps her memory from last night. I'm shocked she even remembers anything after seeing how drunk she was.
I look away from Topper waiting for him to continue his interrogation. "Where did you sleep last night?"
"John B's" I say proudly. Toppers face scrunches in disgust at my best friends name.
"It was so lovely seeing you with Rafe last night, Nessie." Mom is smiling whilst still looking at her phone. "He's such a lovely boy."
"Mom, please just stop." I groan tired of hearing her gush over Rafe Cameron.
"I know, god. It sounds like you want to date him." Topper jokes with her.
"I tell you both something. If I was a few years younger." She grins.
"Gross!" Me and Topper yell in unison at our mother who is now laughing to herself. I really hope she's kidding.
"I'm messing!" She can't stop laughing at herself. "Please tell me you both didn't actually believe me."
Me and Topper glance at each other with a funny look on our faces which tells the other we definitely believed her.
"Are you surprised we believed you, all you do is talk about him." I prop myself up sitting on the worktop.
"I just think he'd be good for you, Nessie." She admits with the shrug of her shoulder.
"Well I don't." I deadpan. "Now would you please stop making comments on my love life, I'm happy on my own."
"Alright, fine. I'm just trying to look out for my baby girl." She glances up at me with a small smile.
"V's a big girl now Mom, she's doing okay on her own." Topper looks at me. A small smile tugs at my lips. Is that my brother making it up to me by having my back? Wow, I like this new and improved Topper.
"Country club tonight you two. David, the owner, is throwing a pool party."
"Cool. Can I bring my friends?" Topper snaps his eyes to look at me. He really does not like my friends. Actually, I think he just really doesn't like John B.
"Members only, sorry sweetie." Mom looks at me apologetically and I nod understandingly.
"So you best tell John B to stay on the cut." Topper snidely remarks.
"Topper, do you have to?" I refer to his unnecessary comment. "You should be happy that you're dating a hot girl that people fancy."
"Yeah not when they're all trying to steal her off me." He grunts.
"If Sarah loves you like she says she does, that won't be possible."
