The morning light creeps through the partly opened curtains. I sit up finding myself alone in Rafe's bed. I don't hear the shower so have no idea where Rafe is. I grab my phone from the bedside table and see a text message from him.

Rafe:
At the country club with T and K. Come see me if you're not busy. I miss your face already beautiful.

My heart threatens to leap from my chest at the words in his text.

Me:
I miss your face too, handsome.

My phone pings almost immediately.

Rafe:
Get your pretty little ass over here then.

A smile creeps onto my face. I sneak out of his bedroom but not before crashing into... Sarah.

"Oh thank god it's just you." I release a breath I didn't even know I was holding.

A grin is plastered from cheek to cheek on her face as she looks between me and Rafe's door.
"Where was you all day yesterday." She retorts teasingly.

The argument with the pogues comes to mind, their faces filled with hateful stares flashes in my memory. My stomach sinks remembering how we left things.

I shake my head, my tone serious. "I have so much to tell you." I grab her arm and drag her to her bedroom before forcing her to listen to all of my problems.

Eventually I'm done filling her in on all things pogue and the strange phone call my mom got yesterday morning. I get ready from her closet and use my toothbrush in her bathroom. It's not long before we're on our way to the country club.

"So Rafe said he wants to take me to midsummers."

Sarah starts grinning. "I knew he wanted to."

"He said we should just tell people, but what does that mean? Does it mean we're together?"

"You are so together!" She exclaims excitedly.

"But we can't tell anyone." I state not even hiding my disappointment.

"V, you might aswell just tell people. The only person who will have a problem with it is Topper and he'll get over it eventually when he realises he can't stop it from happening."

The thought of my brother finding out about me and his best friend makes me want to vomit. I can picture his reaction perfectly. It will be all my fault and he'll say hurtful things to me and most likely mean it. He will probably argue with Rafe too, ruining their friendship and I'll be the one to blame for it all. For a stupid crush I just couldn't shake.
"I don't know I'm just not ready to deal with it all yet. And I'm not about to ruin midsummers, it's a big deal for your dad this year."

"That's fine, V, but you need to stop putting people above yourself. You're supposed to do what makes you happy, even if it means others don't like it. Put yourself first for once."

"I'll think about it." I tell her shutting down the conversation just as we stroll past the reception desk in the country club.

My eyes fall on him. Butterflies flapping in my stomach as I notice how gorgeous he looks, sipping away his drink, chatting to his friends.
He must feel my eyes on him because he looks my way and as soon as he sees me, a smile tugs at his lips.

"Let's go grab a seat, let them come to us for once." Sarah struts into the seating area in front of the bar sitting at a round table.

I sit next to her and it isn't long before the golden trio join us. Rafe takes the seat beside me, getting himself as close as possible.

Topper sits next to Sarah slinging his arm around her shoulders pulling her close to him.

"Shall I get us all drinks?" Kelce offers before taking a seat.

"Yeah, three beers, a cider and a coke." He says coke and looks at me. I shake my head at his pathetic attempt to bother me.

Rafe gets up following Kelce to the bar, leaving me to be a third wheel.

"So Sarah?" Topper starts. She looks up at him letting him know she's listening. "Are we going together to Midsummers?"

"Is that you asking me?" She hints that she wants to be asked properly.

"Fine." He sighs. "Will you go to midsummers with me?"

She giggles. "Yes I will." She tells him and they both rub noses.

I can feel my breakfast ready to come up. I'm saved when Kelce and Rafe return carrying drinks.

Rafe places a cider down in front of me. I look up at him confused, he gives me a quick wink before sitting back down beside me.

Topper notices my drink. "Erm where's my sisters coke?"

"Topper..." I begin but immediately get interrupted.

"She wanted a cider." Rafe tells him nonchalantly.

"She shouldn't be drinking." He complains.

"Who says?" Rafe challenges him.

"I say!" Topper raises his voice slightly, irritation flashing in his eyes.

"Who are you? Her dad?" Rafe digs and topper clenches his jaw, smoke coming from his ears.

"Rafe I swear to..." he begins but he gets interrupted by Sarah.

"Topper!" She smacks his shoulder. "Let it go. She's older than me but you still ordered me a cider?"

She points out the difference in treatment between us. He bites his tongue shaking his head and looking away.

I suddenly feel a warm hand on my thigh under the table. I almost jump but then I realise it's Rafe. I try not to make eye contact with him as I feel his eyes on me. His hand stroking up and down my thigh, each time getting closer and closer.

Topper, Sarah and Kelce are in deep discussion about this weeks plans and what parties are happening but all I can think about is Rafe's hand going up and down my leg.

My phone vibrates, I grab it from the table reading the front screen. A message from JJ.

JJ:
