As predicted it wasn't long before my brother was flat out wasted being overly clingy with Sarah, he always acted that way when drunk. No wonder Sarah runs away from him half the time at parties.
I was sat alone at the table. My eyes on Rafe at the other side of the dance floor where he'd been summoned by his friends who I don't know. He was talking and laughing whilst glancing in my direction every so often, meeting my gaze. He looks so hot in a suit.
I feel a hand on my shoulder breaking my stare towards Rafe. "Fancy a dance, V? You look lonely sat there." Kelce offers me his hand.
I contemplate for a split second whether I should or not. Realising it would make it less questionable when I dance with Rafe if I've also danced with Kelce, I take his hand.
He guides me onto the dance floor, the live band playing classy, slow music majority of the night. He places a hand respectfully high on my waist, linking his hand with mine, I put my hand on his shoulder.
"You look stunning tonight, Vanessa." He tells me, trying to be charming. I didn't have to crane my neck because Kelce is known for being hilariously short. His friends always get a good laugh out of it.
"Thankyou Kelce, you look strapping yourself." I shoot him a friendly smile.
"I don't know if you noticed but Rafe has matched his tie to your dress." He remarks, his tone suspicious.
His words catch me off guard. "Huh?" He slowly spins me round so I'm looking over his shoulder at Rafe who is still talking to his friends. I don't even have to look at his tie to know what colour it is. "Oh would you look at that, what a coincidence." I can feel my face heat up.
Kelce spins me back around again so he's looking at Rafe over my shoulder. "You know what the funny thing is, V?"
I try my best to act casual and not let him know he's getting at something. "What's that Kelce?"
He looks down at me, a grin spread across his face. "Every single year and every single suit Rafe wears... he always wears a black tie." He points out and I can feel my heart thudding in my ears.
"Maybe he just fancied a change." I shrug keeping my tone nonchalant, acting as though it's no big deal.
"How long do you think you guys can keep it a secret?" He blurts out. I pull my head back to look at him with a surprised expression.
"What?"
"You know Topper is gonna kill you both right?" He snorts.
I shake my head at him, furrowing my brows in pretend confusion. "Kelce, I don't know what you think you know but I am telling you you're so w-wrong." I stammer, mentally face palming myself. I need to sound confident with my lies not like a stumbling idiot.
"I wonder if you'll get married and have babies." He chuckles at his own words.
"I don't know what you're talking about?" Deny. Deny. Deny. Lie. Lie. Lie.
"How long has it been going on? Oh shit, he's giving me the death stare." He spins me round so I can see Rafe and he is in fact glaring in our direction.
He waves off his friends before storming up to us. "Kelce, do you mind." His tone laced with irritation.
Kelce holds his hands up in surrender stepping away from me, that same grin still plastered on his face. "Not at all, bro. She's all yours, ain't that right." He teases playfully whacking Rafe's arm.
Rafe doesn't react. Instead he just glares down at Kelce until he gets the message to leave. Kelce begins walking away, backwards, I watch him behind Rafe. He points at me before mouthing 'you know what I'm talking about' before laughing to himself and disappearing into the crowd.
I turn my focus back to Rafe, choking on my words at how perfect he is.
"Speechless, are we?" He chuckles, stepping towards me lacing his hands around my waist.
I reach my arms around his neck as he pulls me flush against his chest. He sways to the music, I follow his lead.
"You look so hot, I can't wait to rip that dress off you tonight." He whispers down to my ear, his hot breath fanning my neck causing every hair on my body to stand on end like a jolt of electricity surging through my veins.
Blushing at his words, I look up at him. "How forward of you, Mr Cameron." I tease playfully.
"You have no idea just how forward I can be, Ness." His voice low and grovelled as he eyes me up and down before he lands on my lips, looking almost desperate to taste them.
"We can't Rafe, not here." I stop him, trying to contain my disappointment. "I've already had Kelce breathing down my neck, poking fun about your tie." With a smirk he watches me trail my fingers down his sage green tie.
"He knows?"
"If he didn't before, he definitely does now after you came storming over here demanding your turn." I glance around the party to see if Kelce is watching us but my eyes land on Topper. He's sat alone, keeping track of my every move.
"So what if he does." Rafe's voice distracts me from realising I'm in my brothers eye-line. Rafe moves my hand to his shoulder, sliding his arm fully round my waist and linking our free hands.
He twirls me before catching me and dipping me. "Rafe." I can't help but giggle. Then our eyes lock. We've never stared at each other so intensely. Everything around us, the entire world just disappeared. In this moment, right here, right now... it's just me and him. I don't care about anyone finding out about us, because I want this. I want him. I want us.
Our lips crash together in a moment of desperation, my hand palming the back of his neck.
"I fucking knew it!"
